About this item

  • Reliable High Performance: The Delica 4 family includes a full range of handle colors, blade grinds, and edge configurations, as well as a blunted training version and a model with the Emerson Opening.
  • Superior Blade Steel: The K390 premium steel blade has a flat saber-ground grind with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole.
  • Ultra-Lightweight: Inside the handle are dual skeletonized Stainless Steel liners which strengthen the knife without additional weight and double as an anchor for external and internal components to attach through generating more sturdiness.
  • Ergonomic: Added to the blade's spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left-or right-handed clip.
  • A Secure Grip: Molded onto the FRN Handle's surface is Bi-Directional Texturing for slip-free tactile traction. It provides resistance to slipping in the hand.

expensive but my favorite after all these years

expensive but my favorite after all these years
I bought this knife from the factory in Colorado and have extensively used it for 3 years. Never sharpened it once and it's quite dull now, but still will cut a box with some more force. The pocket clip bolts got loose and i tightened it now 2-5 times during the 3 years (i lost count and locktite'd it after the last time). The mechanism for opening and closing is as strong as the day i bought it, and the hardware is as strong as the day i bought it (all the pins and bolts holding the knife together). The blade still sits in the exact middle of the housing and i have never tightened anything beyond the pocket clip. The ultra light 2.2oz makes it basically invisible as a daily carry and it cuts rope, 550 cord, packaging, boxes, hosing or whatever else i have used it for in the past few years without fear of anything. One time i left it on top of my car and drove off and found it on the floor just fine. This has taken many a falls or had me land on it many times and it never accidently opened or dented or taken any damage. The only real downside i have experienced in the past three years is that it wants to pit quickly. You absolutely HAVE to clean off any fruit you cut with it and oil it immediately afterwords (I do cut open fruit with it out and about it) or it will start to decompose. That's all that black marking on it, from times where i was lazy and didn't clean it off immediately afterwards since other knives i had you could just let it be for a few days and wipe it off fine. Not this steel, it actively wants to decompose and pit. Keep it oiled, try not to hit nails or screws with it (you can see some of the chips i put in my blade because that since i was using it as a pry tool or cutting some piece of wood that was pretty thin), and make sure the pocket clip is tightened and you'll have many years of hard use. Never sharpened after all these years and the tip is still way more than sharp enough to do serious damage if you slip by accident and the cutting edge is effective enough to do basic tasks that a casual knife user would want.

One of the finest EDC pocketknives on the planet gets an amazing steel. For me the Delica 4 has the best ergonomics and affords all the important grips I use for various applications with a small footprint, easy to carry and tuck away. The K390 steel takes a very fine edge and is an excellent choice for edge retention. It did take me about twice as long to reprofile the edge to my taste over what VG10 took but now all I do is strop with the green Beavercraft compound. I have found that the wire edge wipes right off unlike the gummy high end stainless steels or low end stainless for that matter. K390 does take on a patina and can corrode if you don’t take care of it with a little mineral oil. The outstanding performance makes it all worth it for me. I grew up with carbon steel knives so taking care of them is nothing new here. I kind of like the antique look that comes with patina. I’m also finding the Huron Lake blue of the FRN scales a very attractive color choice. This is an outstanding choice for the money, an overall superb design and perfect choice of materials.

I love Spyderco knives but haven't been impressed with the VG 10 steel in this series of lockback knives, I wanted to try the K390 steel they have been rolling out. I use a kme sharpener with diamond stones and it sharpens blades as sharp as you feel safe using. This steel takes a little more time and effort than softer steels but it is worth it. This steel is not stainless and will darken with time if you don't wipe it down with a little oil especially if you cut food with a little acid in it, like fruit. I wouldn't recommend any prying with the tip unless you are wanting to make it shorter, that's a joke. Knives are for cutting not prying. Use the right tools for the job. I have been happy enough with the steel to have also bought the Spyderco Stretch 2 and the Dragonfly 2 in K390.

Hard, almost daily use. Beautiful color, lightweight, perfect size and Bühler K390 steel! Could I be more charmed..? I think not. Do yourself a favor, and take blade off, give it a 10min boiling hot vinegar bath. Then soak + lube with Ballistal or Super Lube. Gives a nice rust proof patina. Enjoy!

So glad I grabbed one of these in K390. It's already taking on a nice patina after just a few months of use. The Delica is a stellar design that really doesn't need anything else said about it. Great little slicer of a blade and small overall profile that makes it extremely pocketable. K390 is nice to work with, too. Easily stopped to maintain a super sharp edge.

Only buy the K390 steel version if you don't mind a little patina on the blade and are going to oil it every now in then. If you don't mind those two things the K390 holds a edge extremely long time. If you use a leather strop you will hardly need to sharpen it. If patina bothers and you might leave sitting for a month or more and don't mind sharpening more often than the VG-10 steel version is for you. Both versions are very light and have a thin blade excellent for slicing.
