Well, I ordered a UV filter, but received a Variable ND filter, but actually needed that more!
I recently bought a new lens so I ordered a new UV filter for it. However, I received a variable ND filter instead! I'm happy though, because I actually shoot a lot of video, and needed an ND filter anyways! Here's the good things I found. The threads are good, and the filter screwed on to my lens with no issues. The clarity seems good as well. This is an medium quality filter, and I didn't notice any distortion throughout the band. What I don't like is the pouch the filter came it. It's a little large, and I would have preferred the typical plastic circle case thing that filters normally come with. You may get fingerprints, or dust or lint from the bag on the filter, so it's kind of pointless, and I feel like I am still going to have to get a case for this filter to store it. It's a nice touch that they also included a lens cleaning cloth so I can clean the filter with it.Overall, even though I received the incorrect item, I'm actually happier that I did because I will get more use out of this ND filter.

protection for my camera lens. Very clear and did not effect picture quality.

I have been an amateur photographer for over 40 years. One of the first things I learned as kind of a "tip of the trade" was to use UV filters (sometimes simply referred to as a "protection filter") to protect the objective element of your lens. The objective element being the outermost lens element, obviously.

The reason for this is obvious to most, but in case it isn't, a UV filter is much cheaper than a lens. Anything that you accidentally do as a photographer that would ruin a several hundred to several thousand dollar lens, will be instantly mitigated with a <$100 UV filter. So the overwhelming majority of photographers keep UV filters on all their working lenses. The first time you're in some situation where you accidentally drag the front of your camera lens across something that scratches glass, you'll know what I mean.

For a long time, there were only 2 commonly available options. Expensive glass filters, which could be $100 or more, or cheap filters with stamped threads and polymer lenses which were terrible, optically speaking. But come recently thanks to foreign markets (mostly from China, but other places as well) a litany of quality filters is becoming available to the masses at frankly ridiculous prices, if you know the history of the market.

I got this little beauty right here in 82mm. I try to get all of my filters in 82mm, as my Canon 24-70 f2.8 II has an 82mm filter ring, while the rest of my lenses are 77mm or smaller. It's never a problem to step up a smaller lens to a larger filter, as it helps avoid vignetting when stacking filters, especially on shorter focal length lenses. So if you have a bunch of different filters, get the biggest size you have and get step down rings for the smaller lenses.

The threads on this are obviously CNC machined and not stamped, and the spin-on and spin-off was smooth as proverbial glass. Optically speaking, it is crystal clear, and stands up to any other UV / protection filter I own. Beyond that, there isn't much to say about it save for it comes with an...interesting little spring-closure kind of pouch for storage. Personally, I'd rather have a thin hard plastic clamshell, guys. I could do without the pouch. Truth be told, the vast majority of UV / protection filters spend most of their lives attached to lenses, so for the most part all you need for a UV filter is something to ship it in so it doesn't get broken.

Now the last part. The economics of the matter. I have quite a few filters, and a lot of experience with them. So it's no exaggeration to say I know a decent value. This filter is less than $25 bucks at regular price. It's often on sale or has a coupon. Which can mean you get a top-quality optical glass filter for not far from $20 bucks. I've spent $80 out of my own pocket for filters that do exactly what this one does. To say it is a good value is like saying it's cold on Pluto, or water is wet. It's an amazing value, it's a great filter, and I give it a well-deserved 5 stars.

I'm a huge proponent of NOT using filters on my lenses because frankly: I've spent a lot of money on glass and do not look at a filter as a good investment on top of fine quality Canon L glass.

I know it's a snobbery thing. I know I know. But I take care of my equipment and do not abuse anything too too much and this practice has served me well for the most part.

Enter this filter. The filter screwed on without issue. Optically any imperfections in the test images I photographed were minimal. My lens cap clipped on fairly easily. I do feel that it reduced my exposure by a half or close to a full stop…due to my shooting style I would rather not have that. While the lens filter performed ok I didn't notice a result in what I was photographing to make it worth keeping on full time. 4* for effort and because it's ok enough…I am still not sold.

Technology has changed so much, back in the day this filter would have cost a minimum of $40 and that'd be for the inexpensive Tiffen brand and if you went for your own camera brand it'd cost at least $70. However, these days, due to the technology, they've been able to make incredible new filters and systems for less money, and yes, some of the do still suck.

With that though, this Raywowo 72mm UV Filter is actually pretty awesome! I've replaced the K&F that had cracked on my Nikkor 24-70 f/4 and really, I haven't noticed any degradation in image quality or shifting in colors.

In the box, the filter comes in an interesting pouch with a lens cloth and the UV filter.

Overall, if you're looking for a good and inexpensive UV filter for your professional gear, I would definitely recommend this Raywowo.

I think the bar is kind of low on a UV filter, as a lot of people tend to just toss these on their lens not only for the UV but for the protection. Having a UV filter on your lens is a great way to add one layer of pretty neutral glass in terms of keeping your lens clean and safe.

In that way, a UV filter doesn't really have to do much other than sit there and not be horrible.

This one is fine, and gets the job done. The threads are good, and it's easy enough to put this on and then forget it's on there (also a job of a UV filter).

Anyway, this is basically as good as any other UV filter in this range, so if you're looking for one and this one looks good, well there you go.

Perfect "protection" filter for my Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC HLD that is my go-to lens on my Nikon D5600. Not a professional photographer by any stretch, I just take pictures mostly when on vacation or when traveling during my 24 year Navy career. My first camera was a Nikkormat FT-2 that I bought in the Philippines in 1975 (48 years ago). Even back then (and I still have that camera), I always kept either a UV filter or a ND filter on my lenses.

This filter goes on smoothly and still accepts my lens hood and lens cover without any issue. I have 2 other (less versatile, but still capable) lens and they also have a UV filter on almost full time.

So this is a great filter for my bigger lens (18mm-400mm) and the price is fantastic for this quality.
