    During the 1980’s and 1990’s, cassette tapes were popular, and cassette players accordingly were popular among multiple generations. Today, however, the supply chain for cassette players is nearly non-existent, making the initial stages of the CP13 project extremely difficulty – nearly leading us to cancel the project. But after investing much time, effort, and deep cooperation with the supply chain, we were able to slowly continue working on the CP13 leading to its current release. We may be nostalgic for the classics, but we are always looking for new ways to present the music. We want to be able to relive those days of familiar and comfortable pure analog sound.

    I own many old school Walkmans that are breaking down. So I got this one because I like supporting companies that are putting out cassettes and cassette players. I have a Retrospekt and Aurex, both sound great but love this one as well. I love the rechargeable battery and it seems to play cassettes better that the other two new ones I have. Meaning, I had a tape play fine in the Fiio and slow in my other ones. This is also old school in that there is no Bluetooth, keeping it simple. It stops automatically when the tape ends but please note that it does not stop automatically when FF or RW. Not a problem because my old school players are the same way. This is built well and is very sturdy. Very cool design and high quality sound in my opinion. I use the Retrospekt Koss over ear headphones that sound great. Got those on Amazon too. I know there are people who swear by older Sonys but mine require constant maintenance that I’m getting tired off. Most everything is made in China these days, gone are the Japanese made Walkmans 😃. This player sounds great! Also getting a We Are Rewind player soon (yes I have a problem 🤓).I also really love the volume wheel on this Fiio Walkman, super cool and easy to turn the volume up or down.

    This is an all around good product. I like the aluminum shell and especially the volume knob. I don’t need to turn it up very much. Too bad no one makes better internal mechanisms anymore. I would pay more for 80s, 90s quality. It’s great for playing my old cassettes when I get in the mood. Sound quality and build is good for the price. I wish I would have gotten the nice outer case I saw on reviews. I would have given 5 stars for that.

    At first I was impressed with the build quality - the construction is all metal, and the mechanism seems solid. But playing a cassette through my Koss Porta Pros revealed muddy sound that changed its character as I slowly rotated the unit (as one would do carrying a Walkman around). Thinking that maybe the problem was the cassette itself, I checked it in my component cassette player and it sounded great, so that narrowed the issue down to the playback mechanism of the FiiO. I've since seen discussion online that suggests this problem is just endemic to the design of the mechanism. Unfortunately the FiiO sound quality doesn't meet the expectation created by the price - my last cheap plastic Sony Walkman from 1996 sounded vastly better before it finally gave up the ghost.

    I had gotten the pre-order version of the CP13 in February of this year. It sounded great, however the next time I had used it, the tape I was using sounded quick. I originally thought it was a problem with the tape, as I recorded it myself, but testing it on my deck showed that it was recorded at the correct speed.

    I looked it up online to see how to adjust the speed, and I learned this speed issue is a common problem. Luckily, the player does have a way to adjust the speed without opening the player up, however it is quite difficult to do so.

    I hope this problem gets fixed with future renditions of the CP13, and if not, an easier adjustment method is put in, with the ability to adjust it while playing a tape, to get the speed perfect.

    Otherwise, it is a beautiful machine. It looks amazing from the outside, it sounds great, and the battery life seems to be good, however I do not use the machine very often so I cannot properly judge it.

    I do recommend this player, and I do believe it still holds up to the FiiO standard, considering how difficult it is to make a good tape deck in 2024. I believe if they release another version of the product, it will be able to shine above even the best walkmans from the 80s and 90s.

    Warum kauft man sich heute noch einen Kassettenspieler? Ich will ehrlich sein, ich bin eigentlich kein Freund der Kassette und auch den Trend verstehe ich nicht so wirklich, weil digitale Musik, CD's und auch Schallplatten deutlich besser klingen als Kassetten. Letztes Jahr schenkte mir ein Freund die erste At The Gates EP als Tape und ich holte meinen alten Sony Walkman EX-192 wieder raus. Vor kurzem kam die Linkin Park Best Of auch auf Kassette raus und ich dachte mir, komm so just for fun. Leider stellte ich dabei fest, dass mein alter Sony, welcher vor ca. 25 Jahren 49 DM gekostet hat, doch ziemlich leierte, was mir beim Death Metal von At The Gates nicht aufgefallen war. Also musste Ersatz her, da eine Reparatur doch ziemlich unwirtschaftlich gewesen wäre und ein Gebrauchtgerät, wenn auch "überholt", mindestens die Hälfte des FiiO gekostet hätte. Den WeAreRewind habe ich mir natürlich auch angeschaut, ich hab von beiden alle Tests gelesen, die so im Internet zu finden sind. Da ich aber nicht aufnehmen will und Bluetooth im analogen Bereich für mich nichts zu suchen hat, wurde es dann der FiiO.

    Was soll ich sagen, ich bin begeistert! Die Verarbeitung ist hochwertig und fühlt sich top ab. Die Knöpfe muss man ordentlich reindrücken und das Fach klappert auch nicht rum, ist schon fast ein bisschen frickelig wenn man es öffnen will. Der Lautstärkeregler lässt sich nicht zu leicht und nicht zu fest drehen, insgesamt eine sehr gute Anfassqualität. Von der Größe her ist das Gerät aber doch deutlich "klobiger" als mein alter Sony, dafür aber deutlich hochwertiger. Laden lässt sich der FiiO mit jedem USB-C Ladegerät, er zieht max. 5V/2A. Der WeAreRewind soll sich, wie man liest wohl nur mit einem 5V/1A-Ladegerät laden lassen, trotz USB-C, verstehe wer will. Worüber man definitiv streiten kann ist die Tatsache, dass man den Akku nicht wechseln bzw. dass man nicht einfach normale Batterien nutzen kann. Dafür lässt sich das Gerät aber auch während dem Aufladen nutzen.

    Nun zum Klang. Ich habe keine besonders tollen Kopfhörer, es handelt sich um das Modell House Of Marley Positive Vibration 2 BT, welche man auch mit Kabel nutzen kann, aber der Klang ist wirklich super. Im Gegensatz zu meinem alten Sony klingt mit dem FiiO alles viel ausgewogener und der Bass ist nicht so dominant. Für einen Kassettenspieler geht der Klang absolut in Ordnung, Bässe sind da, die Mitten auch, nur die Höhen könnten etwas differenzierter kommen. Sicher kann man das alles nicht mit einer CD, Hi-Res oder auch einer Vinyl vergleichen, weil eine Kassette da immer Nachteile hat, egal wie gut das Laufwerk auch ist.

    Stichwort Laufwerk, in vielen Foreneinträgen wird kritisiert, dass FiiO hier nichts Neues, Eigenes entwickelt hat, sondern auf "mittelmäßige" Technik aus den 90ern setzt, welche nach eig. Angaben nur weiterentwickelt wurde. Das mag stimmen, ist aber nachvollziehbar, weil jeder der sich mal nur ein Bisschen mit der Kassettentechnik auseinander gesetzt hat, der weiß, dass diese kompliziert und wartungsaufwendig ist. Eine Neuentwicklung würde den Preis in die Höhe treiben und sie würde sich vermutlich auch nicht refinanzieren lassen. Auch, dass auf eine Dolby-Rauschunterdrückung verzichtet wurde finde ich nachvollziehbar, da Dolby dafür keine Lizenzen mehr vergibt, bzw. dadurch der Preis auch deutlich höher wäre. Abgesehen davon war ich davon auch nie ein Freund, da damit alles nur dumpf klingt. Die heute produzierten Kassetten sind eh alle nur Typ I und würden das gar nicht unterstützen.

    Leiern tut beim Abspielen übrigens nichts, auch nicht wenn man den FiiO in die Jackentasche steckt und sich normal bewegt, wenn man ihn jedoch schnell hin und her schwenkt, ja dann leiert er etwas. Ich persönlich werde ihn sowieso nur zu Hause auf dem Sofa nutzen, von daher ist mir das ziemlich egal.

    Fazit: Wer mit Kassetten aufgewachsen ist und auf Bluetooth verzichten kann, der ist hier genau richtig und kann bedenkenlos zugreifen, der Preis geht hier völlig in Ordnung. Ja die Technik ist nicht High-End, aber mal ehrlich, war dies die Kassette jemals? Das Gerät macht Spaß und klingt gut. Es ist eine schöne Erinnerung an früher, wenn man selber aus dem Radio aufgenommen hat und den Walkman immer dabei hatte. Wem das in Punkto Kassettentechnik nicht reicht, der kann ja immer noch für mehrere hundert Euro einen gebrauchte Sony Walkman aus den 90ern kaufen und nochmal für das gleiche Geld überholen lassen. Für die High-Ender wäre natürlich auch ein Nakamichi Dragon eine Option.

    Stichwort Laufwerk, in vielen Foreneinträgen wird kritisiert, dass FiiO hier nichts Neues, Eigenes entwickelt hat, sondern auf "mittelmäßige" Technik aus den 90ern setzt, welche nach eig. Angaben nur weiterentwickelt wurde. Das mag stimmen, ist aber nachvollziehbar, weil jeder der sich mal nur ein Bisschen mit der Kassettentechnik auseinander gesetzt hat, der weiß, dass diese kompliziert und wartungsaufwendig ist. Eine Neuentwicklung würde den Preis in die Höhe treiben und sie würde sich vermutlich auch nicht refinanzieren lassen. Auch, dass auf eine Dolby-Rauschunterdrückung verzichtet wurde finde ich nachvollziehbar, da Dolby dafür keine Lizenzen mehr vergibt, bzw. dadurch der Preis auch deutlich höher wäre. Abgesehen davon war ich davon auch nie ein Freund, da damit alles nur dumpf klingt. Die heute produzierten Kassetten sind eh alle nur Typ I und würden das gar nicht unterstützen.

    Leiern tut beim Abspielen übrigens nichts, auch nicht wenn man den FiiO in die Jackentasche steckt und sich normal bewegt, wenn man ihn jedoch schnell hin und her schwenkt, ja dann leiert er etwas. Ich persönlich werde ihn sowieso nur zu Hause auf dem Sofa nutzen, von daher ist mir das ziemlich egal.

    Fazit: Wer mit Kassetten aufgewachsen ist und auf Bluetooth verzichten kann, der ist hier genau richtig und kann bedenkenlos zugreifen, der Preis geht hier völlig in Ordnung. Ja die Technik ist nicht High-End, aber mal ehrlich, war dies die Kassette jemals? Das Gerät macht Spaß und klingt gut. Es ist eine schöne Erinnerung an früher, wenn man selber aus dem Radio aufgenommen hat und den Walkman immer dabei hatte. Wem das in Punkto Kassettentechnik nicht reicht, der kann ja immer noch für mehrere hundert Euro einen gebrauchte Sony Walkman aus den 90ern kaufen und nochmal für das gleiche Geld überholen lassen. Für die High-Ender wäre natürlich auch ein Nakamichi Dragon eine Option.
