I've never had the official Canon hood for this lens so I can't really compare, but I can't imagine the Canon is enough better to justify 3 times the price. The JJC goes on and off easily, cleanly snaps in pace, is fully reversible for camera storage and seems pretty well made for it's modest price.

The only (very very slight) criticism I have is that when you try to remove it from the reversed position, it almost feels stuck. I don't think it's catching on anything as it doesn't seem to "break" loose, I think it's just a little more snug than I'm expecting. It's just a little more snug than when it's on frontwards. It's definitely not so snug that I'm worried about damaging the lens, but for some reason, it surprises me every time and I have to give it a little more force than I thought.

I can easily live with this for the price, but I thought I'd mention it. If you want the absolute pinnacle of quality control and best experience, maybe it's worth it to you to pay 3x the price for the Canon. Maybe the Canon does the same thing? I'd rather put that money elsewhere in my kit, especially since this is for a kit lens that will be upgraded hopefully sooner rather than later.

The hood works great on the Canon 18-135mm lens its fit and finish are great. It is plastic, it does feel and look well built and designed, I have not had the hood for a long period of time so I can not really testify on the durability. The hood can be reversed for easy transport and locks on to the lens well. For the price its an exceptional item I really like the quality of the JJC products and have purchased several of the camera accessories I would recommend this item for anyone looking for a reasonably good priced hood.
