Very happy with the excellent resolution. I bought this based on my outstanding experiences with several other Leupold Gold Ring series optics. I was not disappointed like when I purchased a lesser green ring scope. My aging eyes easily detect optical imperfections and force me to buy the higher end products. You will save money in the long run by getting the very best you can afford and then take very good care of them.

2023 update: Many miles later, I am just as happy as when new. Incredible detail seen during birding. Also used for viewing the planets. Used with an excellent Manfrotto fluid head tripod and quick mount.

The focus wheel is way too tight, you have to grab it with your entire hand and use a lot of strength to turn it. Turning the focus wheel rocks the entire tripod. When you are zoomed in on something 1/2 a mile away and are trying to keep the image still, this is not what you need. Kowa and Vortex make comparable scopes that can be focused with light pressure from one finger. I'm a competitive rifle shooter and birder and have spent a lot of time lying on the ground looking through scopes. Am a huge Leuopold fan, but this scope is not functional. Compact, easy to carry, well made, etc. But VERY difficult to actually use. You will regret buying this scope. Was so excited to get this scope; very disappointed when actually tried to look through it.

Imagine my disappointment when I opened the brand new Leupold GR Spotting Scope I'd researched, saved for and ordered for myself for Christmas only to find a used scope in the box. I knew almost immediately something wasn't right because the box didn't look right. Slight tear in the corner. When i opened the box there was the scope sitting in the box on top of the cover. I don't know how Leupold packages their scopes but I've bought numerous scopes and binoculars and they've all been in some kind of plastic wrapping. The brown case wasn't wrapped in anything either and the shoulder strap was attached to one end of the cover and just lying in the bottom of the box. It has been unfolded and you could see the bends in it from when it was folded new. The scope was dirty on the outside and had specs of something on the side of the scope that was facing up. When I looked at the objective it too had specs of dust or something on it. The really dirty part was the focus ring. You could tell someone had used it and didn't bother to clean it before returning it. The brown case even had a small dot that was a stain of some kind. I've only returned a couple things I've ordered from Amazon and I've always gone to great pain to try to return the items in perfect condition. This was just thrown back in the box. At first i thought I'd just clean it up and keep it. But I decided not to because I could have bought a "USED LIKE NEW" scope from somewhere else for 300 dollars less. I don't want a used or returned scope and was willing to pay the difference. Very disappointing. As far as the quality of the scope itself I can't say it's bad. I did look through it and found it to be very clear and has amazing eye relief which is exactly what I was looking for. If I'd gotten a new scope I'd have given it 5 stars for the quality of the scope. Too bad they sent me this one. I'm attaching pictures to show what I received. These pictures were taken within an hour of receiving the scope.
