The full metal chassis of the Ares UHD 15-45x65 Spotting Scope is rugged and weatherproof, with argon gas preventing internal fogging and ensuring better thermal stability. this is a great spotting scope. easy to focus and Christal clear at 200 yards. i really like the focus ring it makes it a lot easier to focus and not as sensitive as a small knob. The mounting ring allows one to change the angle of the eye piece to any angle.

Absolutely blows away Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50. The Razor was pretty sharp at low magnification, but as you zoom it started to remind me of a spotting scope I won at a carnival years ago. I even compared the Ares (albeit a quick comparison) to my Kona TSN-553 and the difference was minimal despite being 1/3rd the price. The Kona produced slightly sharper color, but to me it was negligible.

In fairness, I’m not an optics expert so you may have a different opinion in terms of how the Ares compares to Kona, but for me comparing side by side I would expect them to be much closer in price, which is a complement to the Ares.

A note on weight, this is NOT a light weight scope. I thought Amazon shipped a brick instead of the scope I ordered. Not an issue for me at all, but something to be aware of if weight is a consideration for you given the intended use.
