The battery was not the problem. At all. Even with all of the correct tools to open the case, and I am technically experienced with a lot of things in life, I could not get the case to open like the youtubers show and I couldn't fully get the two halves completely snapped together.
Again, not the fault of the battery. This falls into the category of user error. Listen. The ipod is something like two decades old and I'm still able to access my songs and use it in my older car now that I've installed a new replacement battery in and so at this point, purchasing the battery still has more than paid off. This new replacement battery and the ipod will now outlive me and I'm good to go with it. Capishe? Ciao.
