"NCIS,” of course," is the long-running, very popular police procedural crime drama that, as of this writing, is now in its 13th season on CBS. For the past few years, viewers have rated “NCIS” as the number one scripted show of any genre on American broadcast TV, and for the past two years, it has been the top-ranked show in the world. The reason for this is simple: it has a superb ensemble cast, and consistently well-written and acted episodes that alternately funny, dramatic, tense, thrilling, and always fun to watch.

“NCIS” revolves around the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), an actual civilian-run law enforcement agency of the U.S. Navy. It follows the investigations of the Major Case Response Team (MCRT) located at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Special Agent “Leroy Jethro Gibbs” (Mark Harmon), leads this team, which is made up of Special Agents “Tony DiNozzo” (Michael Weatherly); “Eleanor (Ellie) Bishop” (Emily Wickersham), “Timothy McGee” (Sean Murray), Chief Medical Examiner “Donald (Ducky} Mallard (David McCallum), and forensics expert Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette.)

From Season 12’s very first episode, it was clearly evident that “NCIS” had made a big comeback. That first episode literally starts with a bang as Russian gangsters shoot down Gibbs and Magee, who are flying in a helicopter while on a mission to Russia. Thus begins one of the most tense and exciting story arcs that’s appeared in several years. Every other episode of the twelfth season reflects the same level of dramatic intensity; several equally well-written story arcs interweave with that of Gibbs and Magee’s encounter with the Russian mob. At season’s end, there is an especially dramatic multi-episode story arc involving the recruitment of young boys by a mysterious terrorist organization. That particular storyline leads to one of the most intense season-ending “cliff-hangers” in the show’s history, one that producers have promised will reverberate throughout Season 13…

“NCIS” Season 12 sees quite a bit of positive character development. Tony DiNozzo gives evidence of being a more mature and capable special agent with better leadership skills. Unfortunately, scriptwriters still seem bent on giving him moments of clownishness that I'm beginning to find increasingly tiresome. Tim Magee has lost much of his earlier nerdiness, and has developed into a first-rate agent. He has now settled down into a long-term relationship with a DOD analyst named Delilah. Ellie Bishop, now a full-fledged “probie,” is growing in confidence and capability. Unfortunately for Leroy Jethro Gibbs, his life seems to be going in an opposite direction. Many of the season’s most traumatic events, including the loss of two people close to him, take a terrible psychological toll on Gibbs, and lead him into a seemingly endless downward spiral with potentially deadly consequences...

In Season 13, many of Season 12’s key events continue to have major repercussions on every one of the show’s characters, and are making the current season another one of sheer excellence. This is strong testimony to just how good “NCIS” Season 12 really is. Highly recommended.

(albeit no longer active duty) and former scout-sniper Leroy Jethro Gibbs ... from my vicarious experience as a father looking from the outside to the inside, the Marine Corps is filled with men and women who are physically and psychologically tough but who are also loyal, caring individuals who are creative / outside the box thinkers who ask for and receive assignment of extremely difficult and dangerous missions; for whom failure is not an option (and for whom "can't" is not a word and for whom doing the impossible is the baseline level of performance); who set extraordinarily high standards and expect to and do perform in accordance with them; who are doggedly persistent and unrelenting in pursuit of accomplishing the assigned mission and who will not quit until the mission is successfully accomplished or they are no longer able to continue (dead or badly wounded); and for whom the USMC creed of "Honor, Courage, Commitment" are not mere words but are a code of conduct by which they endeavor to live. In many ways, the Leroy Jethro Gibbs character embodies and honorably reflects the above description of US Marines and the USMC creed. I look forward to every new Episode.

NCIS has the rare ability to make you think, laugh, cry, yell at the TV, wish you were on the team yourself, and keep you coming back for more! Every member of the team has a great background story, the actors play well off of each other, and the rapport among the cast is spectacular! Mark, Michael, David, Pauley, Brian, Cote, Emily, Rocky, Sean, Sasha, Lauren, Joe, Muse, Ralph, Michael Nouri, Robert Wagner, and all the great guest stars have made this show the best one ever made in my humble opinion! You all have made a great cast and keep the great work coming! And Michael (aka DiNozzo), keep coming up with nicknames for Sean (aka McTardy)!!!! Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!
