The election of Barack Obama as President of the United States is a defining moment in American history. After years of failed policies and failed politics from Washington, this is our chance to reclaim the American dream. Barack Obama has proven to be a new kind of leader–one who can bring people together, be honest about the challenges we face, and move this nation forward. Change We Can Believe In outlines his vision for America.

In these pages you will find bold and specific ideas about how to fix our ailing economy and strengthen the middle class, make health care affordable for all, achieve energy independence, and keep America safe in a dangerous world.
Change We Can Believe In asks us not just to believe in Barack Obama’s ability to bring change to Washington, it asks us to believe in our ability to change the world.

i like this book. it is clearly written. it doesn't include lots of hesitancy that's found in soooo many books written by attorneys!!! this book very clearly describes senator obama's positions on so many issues. it's not, of course, absolutely comprehensive, but, it does address most of the more contentious issues. the second factor that is most germane to obama's writing, is his desire to get us all motivated and feel responsible for facilitating change. he does this, oddly, by focusing on the issues, something that hasn't been done in a long while. an excellent book that summarizes his positions and motivates the reader.

If after 20 months on the campaign trail, you still don't know who Barack Obama is, then you need to read this book. What a person values is who they are. This book clearly lays out Obama's plans and highlights the value of work, education, compassion, health, family, security, fiscal responsibility, innovation and leadership in the world. Its an excellent and quick read for anyone still wondering what Obama stands for. If he can do half of what's in this book, he will be counted among the greatest presidents ever.

An outline of the President's plans and hopes for America. Written before the 2008 election, President Obama lists some of the things that are important to him to accomplish and how he feels about issues America is facing. If only Congress would not have tried to stand in the way of everything he tried to do, for example, he tried to close Gitmo so many times and they blocked him. He still got many of his other promises accomplished though, anyway. This book is part of history and I'm glad to have it.

This platform for Barack Obama's plans for change is well-written, concise and clearly presented. I have bought 2 additional copies for friends who were not sure what his proposals included. The book is nicely divided to take you to the issue that interests you most. An important resource for those who need more than sound bytes to explain Obama's policies and plans.

If you want to know why the Barack Obama campaign thinks you should vote for him in November 2008, this is the book for you.
It is a campaign book, lacking the distinct voice that rings through Obama's own writing. The dry writing and dated subject, banished this book to the bookcase after only three chapters. Not even worth the time to finish.
Written before the financial meltdown had become evident, it's usefulness is questionable, other than as a bit of memorabilia recalling President Obama's historic achievement.

My Mother is a great admirer of Pres-Elected Obama and since I had gotten her his other books I went ahead and purchased this one for her. She found the reading engaging, encouraging and uplifting. So if she is pleased with it I know it is an excellent read as she is very selective about any book she reads!

We've been conditioned by so many other political whirlwinds. Snowed by so many of them. Lied to directly by a few. President Obama talks to our thinking minds. Helping us expand beyond the "same old politics" to designing our futures if we really desire it and want to work for it.

Purchased for my personal library as it is so important to have historical reading of how leadership principles were followed. Integrity, thoughtful leadership documented!

5.0 out of 5 stars He is an enigma in US and world politics
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 2, 2023
He is the epitome of the "American dream" -- the game changer who transcends all boundaries, colour, cred, bigotry, misogyny racism and hatred. He envisions an America that is all embracing and a world that is just and far. He is aware of the obstacles and of the systemic racism that has engulfed the American society since the African and Transatlantic slavery but he has Hope's that changes can be made and accomplished if we all dear to dream that we can all do be and ought to do be to enable us all transcending to a goodness where all of us are winners and not just a few. He has Hope's, good hopes and that's why some people call him a "hope monger". Yet, he says that if he himself did not have hope's, the possibility of him transcending from a Kenyan background to be catapulted to the white house as the first black president in the history of America, would be impossible. He doesn't hope just for the sake of hoping, but he hopes with strategies and policies and ideas that bear fruits and he says that if we all put our Hope's in reality and action, things can change because changes don't come from the top down but from the bottom up and if walls of Jericho, read apartheid if you prefer, can check in Washington, they can check in Chicago; if they can check in Chicago, they can check in Pennsylvania; and if they can check in Pennsylvania, they can check in south Africa; and if they can check in South Africa, they can check in Europe too.

In other words, we can we can bring about changes that can make this world a better place for all but that won't happen if we sit adamantly by doing nothing about it and they won't change if we even support the very obstacles that make those changes possible.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT written by Barack Obama

The book is like election manifesto that someone publishes before the election. Doesn't make sense now, simply because you have seen what worked and what not.

I was somehow under and impression that it was written by Barack Obama, but it's not (I can't find authors name on the book so I am assuming his campaign team put it together)

ONLY good point is that there are few of his speeches in the end. (I always thought Barack Obama was one of the best orator of our time, perhaps second to only Mohammad Ali/Cassius Clay). Those speeches are good to read, understand firsthand what he spoke and meant. Rest of the the book can be avoided.
