Editorial Reviews

Single CD and vinyl reissues of their 1977 album! One of the most accessible in the band, a mix of Rock, Prog and Folk-Rock! Released in 1977, Jethro Tull's tenth album, Songs From The Wood, was inspired by Ian Anderson's installation in a more rural environment. He draws mainly from English and British folklore. Includes Jack-In-The-Green and Cup Of Wonder titles...

The CD arrived in perfect condition and quickly. Delivery was great. Although I previously was familiar with, and owned, 2 other Tull recordings (Stand Up and Aqualung) I wasn't so familiar with this. It did take me a few listenings to get into this but overall found it to be a good collection. Since I was not so familiar with the Steven Wilson remixes I don't honestly know how this compares with any earlier releases. However I would recommend it for anyone who is looking to expand their music collection. I still think Stand Up is my favorite having listened to it for 55 years, but this was a worthwhile purchase.

I first heard this album when I was a sophomore in high school. At that time, it seemed too pretentious to me. I'm not a fan of what some call "progressive rock" though I would not put Tull in that over-used and under defined category. To me, Tull is perhaps the greatest folk-rock band of all time. It's very complex song constructions and master-level poetic lyrics really set the band apart from anything else you are likely to hear. While a small handful of hits are played out on "classic rock" radio, none are from this album which many fans might find to be Tull's best. One way to tell a true Tull fan is to ask if they know "Hunting Girl," Solstice Bells," The Whistler," or "Jack-in-the Green." There is more here. I am a skeptic of reissues, but this one is worth the extra dough. There are some alternative takes and while these are typically rightly left on aside in most cases of "bonus tracks," the ones here are worth a hear. The sound quality is great and overall, this is a reissue worth owning for any Tull fan and a great place to start if you like Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Teacher, or Bungle in the Jungle and want to dig deeper. Oh, and yes, it rocks out as well.

The Steve Wilson remix is mind blowing! I had a previous copy of Songs From The Wood on CD so I can say how much better this is. Amazingly clean and crisp, you'll hear every note of every instrument in sheer brilliance and depth as if they were in front of you. The separation sound scape Wilson creates is absolutely perfect to allow you to take it all in. I heard intricacies throughout this work for the first time! Don't hesitate, get it!

I was an audio engineer for 15 years, I have both versions, the orginal mix and this one, Thank you Steve! You didn't compress the crap out of everything (like all other rexies are)! Kick and bass guitar are much higher in the mix, much more solid and powerful. "cap in hand" is a good example. "Velvet green" is a masterpiece! The number of instruments on that track is amazing, all done with a 16 track tape machine in 1977, thank you Ian Anderson for your arrangement and composition. This track sounds amazing on a good system, I keep hearing more and more details every time I listen!

Got this as an addition to the vinyl version. Great reworked version with exceptional clarity, and dynamics. The Acapella intro on the title track is stunning

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent remaster and remix.

Folksy progressive rock. Great time changes in this make you notice the music. Ok for children. Kids seem to really enjoy this. The remix makes this sound fresh and seems to bring out the full sound. Most Jethro Tull records were good. There is one really bad one, but this was one of their best. Timeless is what comes to mind. It could be done this year or 40 years ago. All the tracks are that good. Bonus tracks are also good. They don't seem like just extra filling.

Single CD version: great sounding mix - though I have no issues particularly with any reissues of Jethro Tull on CD - detailed booklet, competitive price.

Years ago I was only interested in their first 5 albums so discovering the rest of their 70s output has been rewarding. Fans already know, I'm sure, how accessible despite its complexity this album is. Great songs with all of the band contributing ideas, arrangements, virtuosity.

Haven't listened to the bonus tracks.

Aparte de la obligatoria publicación de los temas del disco original incluye primeras versiones de temas que no estaban incluidos en el original, remezclados e incluso un par de temas sin niguna edición. Particularmente bonita la versión de One Brown Mouse!!!!
