With backpacking, weight is a major concern. While when canoe camping, weight isn't as much of an issue, but packability is.
This has become my go to, summer canoe camping cook pot.
During the winter or shoulder seasons, I usually cook over a campfire when canoe camping. This pot should NOT be used over an open fire.
However, during summer months, there is usually a fire ban and you have to use some sort of gas stove.
When canoeing I'm also usually cooking for multiple people so I need a bigger pot.
This one is awesome!
It collapses down to about the size of a dinner plate, but pops out to a full 2.5 liter pot!
The plastic lid fits very securely and has small holes to vent steam or drain water off of pasta.
I can cook enough food in this pot to feed 3 or 4 hungry campers.
I did take it on a recent backpacking trip too, where I was 'guiding' a few folks who were just getting started and didn't have much of their own equipment. However, it's a bit too big and heavy for me to bring on solo trips. For that, I bring a 750ml titanium pot that only weighs 5oz, that's all I ever need.
For larger groups, this pot is a home run!
Very highly recommended.
As for using it, we cook over a portable gas stove to ensure the sides aren't exposed to flame, only the steel bottom. We've used it a few times now and couldn't be happier. I was skeptical of the $47.90 price tag, but after using a few times I think it's worth it. Especially when you're cooking for multiple people. Clean up is easy and the translucent lid with a strainer is a great addition.
Overall, we're very happy with this pot and is now my wifes "go to" for cooking over the camp stove. Ingenioius design in my opinion and we plan to get years of use out of it. We keep it with our camping gear and make sure it goes out on every trip with us. I'm not familiar with the Campwolf brand, but seems to be as good a quality as the more well known brands.
And wouldn't it be nice to have fold in handles? To not only reduce the size but make its stashability better? Maybe even have them lock the lid as well? Or at leat SOME way to lock the lid?
I suggest instead of cookie cutter cranking out other people's designs, design your own. Like a lid that can double as a a plate, or made of metal with a seperating handle to use as a griddle (or pan).
In the very leat make the walls steeper so it doesn't use so much fuel to cook things.
The stainless bottom is similar to the kettle that I have, so I am used to heating and cooking with this. The pot is a NICE size at 2.5 liters. That's more than enough for cooking up soup or stew for several people at a campsite. There are flame warnings on the bottom, but I've never had any issue with this design being used over open flame/fire. In fact, that is how I tested this one.
The drain slots in the lid are very much appreciated! The handles on the sides are ample enough to hold with stability... and the little flip-up tab for pulling off the lid even works well.
This thing is just perfect all the way around. Nicely done!
