4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 37 ratings

Mad Music was the buzziest new show of the upcoming Broadway season, with a hot score, a cool director, and a deadly plot twist no one saw coming. When rumors of a behind-the-scenes disaster surface, ballerina Leah Siderova finds herself with the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to make her Broadway debut while playing a double role. The producers hope to capitalize on her talent, as well as her devoted fan base, to revive ticket sales. Leah’s true reason for abandoning Lincoln Center for the Great White Way is her undercover investigation of online threats against Amber Castle, the star of the show.

Leah finds herself in a deadly race against time as the virtual threats escalate into real-life violence. Her collaboration with the handsome detective assigned to the case complicates their fragile romance as she battles jealousy, hidden motives, and a shadowy stalker who endangers her personal and professional future.

Surrounded by actors skilled in deception, can Leah solve the mystery in time to save the show?

Review

Praise for the On Pointe Mystery Series

"Robbins, a former ballerina, steeps the novel in the glamorous grunge of the dance world...The result is a suspenseful romp with loads of atmosphere. A highly entertaining whodunit with a twisty plot and plenty of biting ballet intrigue." - Kirkus Review [starred review]

"Robbins does an outstanding job of juxtaposing the ballet world with the investigative process that challenges Leah's set roles, forcing her to new heights of realization about the world of dance, her colleagues, and her own ambitions. This makes for compelling reading... the tension is finely drawn and the movements between dance and death assume their own form of masterful entwining that keeps readers involved in a realistic character's moves. Exquisitely complex, nicely steeped in both drama and the competitive atmosphere of the dance world." - D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

I love this series as I teach dance and can relate to the behind the scenes backstories going on and rivalry between people.

This is the 4th book (and I do hope the author writes more). You can pretty much read it as a stand alone, but you will want to read the other 3 books too. In this one, ballerina Leah Siderova, finds herself in a new broadway show. Leah’s taken a break from her ballet company and signed a short term contract for a role dancing as a Dream for the star of an upcoming Broadway musical, Mad Music. Although taking a leave from ABC, Leah has an ulterior motive for taking the job. She is going undercover to investigate the online threats against Amber Castle, the musical’s star. Suddenly Leah is also receiving online threats.

Lori Robbins provides us with a cast of kooky characters including an elderly dance trio called The Weird Sisters, an ex-mobster named Sol and Leah’s mother, who authors murder mysteries and fancies herself as a detective. Returning as Leah's romantic interest is Jonah Sobol, her dreamy homicide detective boyfriend.

It was a thoroughly delightful read and I look forward to more books by Lori Robbins.

Another excellent murder mystery by this author. While the first three books, all of which stand alone quite nicely, had Leah Siderova in her job as a ballerina, this volume has her moving to Broadway to dance as the dream of an actress. First, people associated with the show, including Leah, were threatened, then people were injured, finally there were deaths. Intertwined were romances and faked romances.

Altogether a fun romp with enough mayhem to keep the reader guessing

Lori Robbins delivers another blockbuster mystery with “Murder in the Fourth Position.” This time, the action takes place on Broadway, where ballerina/sleuth Leah finds herself entangled in a web of deceit only her quirky characters can help her unravel.

I love the big city setting, the backstage insights, and, of course, the carefully choreographed action. No one brings the ballet to life more vividly than Lori Robbins.

This one is not to be missed.

Such a twisted tale of jealousy, greed and murder. Like the earlier books in the series, I couldn't put it down. It combines two of my favorites--dancing and theater--with a favorite genre. Looking for a good murder mystery? This is it!

Filled with thrilling twists and turns, Murder in Fourth Position is also a fast and funny page-turner. It peels back the curtain to reveal a secretive world where beauty and talent are the greatest assets and deadliest threats. A showstopper of a read.

Whoops, this is the fourth book in a series. No, I didn’t realize this right away, and I’m not going back and reading the other three.

I’ve also learned that I’m really picky about mystery/thriller books. This story was fine. Maybe I would have liked it better if I read the first three, but this book felt like a middling book in a list of books like it. The main character is dull. I pointed to the person who did it early on in the book, and honestly, how this book was written, I didn’t even think it was “too easy” it was just the sort of book that would have this kind of character as the one who did it.

In the end, I think this is a good book for people who like books that have a mystery to it, I also don’t think the book was for me.

I guess Ms. Robbins was getting bored with writing murder mysteries with a ballet company in the background, so this one uses a Broadway musical instead.

There is a lot of real-time sex, but it's pretty tame by today's standards.

I received a free e-book ARC of this book. This is an honest review.

Okay, right up front, a couple of disclosures. FIRST, I know absolutely nothing about the world of dance, or, for that matter, the workings of Broadway plays and musicals (though we do have a street named Broadway in our southeast Missouri town of 40,000). SECOND, I have not attended an actual Broadway presentation in New York since my senior high school trip in 1967, although I did attend several when the traveling casts of other shows like Cats, Jersey Boys, Miss Saigon and The Addams Family came to Chicago. But that said, I know a good book when I read one, and Murder in the Fourth Position, by Lori Robbins, is just such a book. I haven’t read all four installments in the Leah Siderova series, but I have read one other one. This time around, Leah has taken a leave from the American Ballet Company to take a second lead in a Broadway musical called “Mad Music.” At the same time, she is working as an unofficial investigator, trying to figure out who is sending threatening letters to the star performer, and why. Threats quickly lead to assaults, which lead to a murder, and it appears Leah is targeted to be the next victim, unless she can crack the case before it’s too late. This is a fun read, with lots of insights into the high-strung world of A-list dancers, choreographers and producers. I recommend it unreservedly.
