John Avanzato was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He attended Fordham University undergraduate eventually going on to the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. He is a practicing gastroenterologist in upstate New York where he resides with his wife of more than thirty years. Hostile Hospital was his first foray into the world of creative writing. He now has now published fourteen full-length novels which have been well-received and has established himself as an author of medical thrillers revolving around the exploits of his singularly unique main character, John Cesari, a former gangster turned doctor. Avanzato affectionately refers to his works as being a new type of genre, the Gastro-Noir and his protagonist as being the "James Bond" of colonoscopy. Inspired by authors like Tom Clancy, David Baldacci, Mickey Spillane, John Grisham, and Lee Child, Avanzato writes about strong but flawed heroes. Nothing like another great murder mystery that draws you in, has twists and turns to keep you interested in virtually non-stop reading! Just when you think Cesari, Vito, and now, Tierney are going to get knocked off again, the tables turn in their favor! Love the reference to the “Taken” movie! Can’t wait to see what the next adventure(s) is for these guys!

Great character development. Some characters I thought would be villains, were not and others, I thought were the good guys.....were not! In the book, there is the US senate, the mafia, the FBI, the CIA, the Secret Service and the NYPD....what could possibly go wrong? Dr. John Cesari and his cohorts fumble and stumble, but finally figure most of it out.

I’ve read all of John Avanzato’s novels and it’s getting harder to choose favorites now. Cesari’s adventures took him to Sicily this time and this book was action packed from the very beginning. Unfortunately life has a way of intervening so it took me longer than usual to finish. I read it in three sittings, but they were spaced apart. Could not take it any more and finished it tonight and was not disappointed. Starting to think Cesari, Vito and Tierney are my family now. Would love to get these on Audible as it would fit my lifestyle better but then John would have to get with the program and put books out more quickly. Love, love, love his novels. Highly recommend.

The storyline was really great, and I loved the sudden, urgent trip to Sicily to escape the bad guys and protect the innocent young woman! Cesari and Vito were their usual irrepressible selves, and were running from imminent danger throughout the whole story, with a fabulous finale on Mt. Etna! Bravo!!

I have read all of the John Cesari Novels but this one is Avanzato's Masterpiece...this thriller begins in the Manhattan and ends at the foot of Mt Etna on the beautiful island of Sicily...there is a masterful intermingling of story plots that involve the CIA, FBI, US Congress, the Mafia, Secret Service, an old world Italian family and a gastroenterologist ...it is a very well researched novel that is absolutely captivating...I wouldn't be surprised if James Patterson was hearing John Avanzato's footsteps...
