What else can you do with Zumba 2?
There are 30 full workouts: 10 short (15-17 minutes); 10 mid-length (45 min) and 10 full length. There is a progress tracking that keeps count of the minutes and calories burned for each workout. You can view it to see your daily, weekly and monthly totals. It also tracks your weight. There is no avatar that you can create, which was fine by me.
The game also provides move cues before each major move set, so this is helpful to be able to know what steps you need to take. It gives you "star" ratings while doing the moves, which is a fun way of earning "stars". There are different awards for completing certain tasks. And you can unlock extra short clips of video (e.g. how they made the characters)....they are short, so don't expect a full length video lol
For those who have not done Zumba before there is a tutorial section that will walk you through the steps. You can be a novice and get into this game. As long as we keep moving is what matters most with doing any workout. It is a challenge to me to get better and be able to improve my "game", so to speak.
With 33 songs, even for the most negative person, there has to be at least some songs one likes! The music is actually "real" music. And while many of the songs I was not familiar with, I am the type of person who is open to new things. While I had never heard "Poison"......it grew on me! Workouts like this help one get out of their cookie cutter box of "same thing". That is why I love Zumba...because I don't feel like I am working out, I feel like I am dancing (or at least attempting lol).
For those who have never done Zumba and not familiar with the moves, the best shoes for Zumba are shoes that do not have a lot of tread on the bottom due to the various moves, you want to be careful not to twist a knee. There are shoes you can get that are geared towards dance workouts. Or, if you have an older pair of shoes you can do as my Zumba instructor told us.......put duct tape over the bottom area of the shoe where you can pivot smoothly. I treated myself to a pair of Nike Musique IV.....these shoes are light and have turning points on the soles of the shoes which makes pivoting and Zumba moves easier to nagivate. These shoes are on sale currently......I paid less than $45 dollars. Also, for those who do Zumba on the carpet, ensure you take extra precautions when doing your pivots. The ideal flooring should be smooth, but I have carpet and just take it lightly.
Zumba is for individuals of all sizes, and even if you are not in shape you can do it! For those of us not in the greatest of shape, we shouldn't expect to start any workout and be able to do the moves like the instructor at the same high level.....as the saying goes, we have to start somewhere. I personally like the challenge. Predictable and "easy" workouts do not help our bodies get into better shape....our bodies need a challenge.
As a side note as an improvement for the next Zumba game, I do think it would be beneficial to make it a choice to disable the flashing lights. For some individuals who have migraines or seizures, this game probably would not be good for you. I will say that I am sensitive to lights, and I have motion sickness but this game does not make me sick nor give me a headache. There are several options to choose for your workout background, and I have found a couple where the lights are not as obvious.
Creating a profile was very easy. All you need is your name, date of birth, weight, and height. My husband and I actually started with a full length class and that was a mistake! We were tired after just 2 songs, so we decided to go back to learn the steps and then go through some of the songs to see which ones we liked. Love, love, love the NY nightclub music so far. Shaking hips, body rolls, pumping, the best! We finished with a short class, which was about 4 songs I believe. I completed it, he didn't. Said he was tired out from the first dances we did!
The only problem I have with the game is that there is no time gauge to see how much time is left remaining in the dance. That would be nice to see as you are completing a dance.
Other than that, this is a great game. LOVE the music!!!! I like to dance anyway, so combining exercise with dance is great. I have taken live Zumba classes before at a local gym and loved it then, so I thought this would be a good substitute when I didn't have time to go, and it is!! I did hear a song on the game that we used to do in class, just the moves are different. I can not wait until the new one comes out in the Fall!!
Sideline: Cudos to Amazon for shipping so quickly. I ordered the game on Friday, it shipped Saturday and got to my post office Monday, WOW!!!!
The only downside is that no matter where we put the sensor bar or how we hold the Wii motes, it doesn't register any moves, not even one. Everything works on other games but not this one. Ours came with a belt and that doesn't help either. It doesn't matter as much to us since we're using it for working out, but if you wanted to actually compete, it's a no-go.
That said, we love this and will buy more versions of it to change things up a bit, SO much fun!
