I paddle my canoes and kayaks a lot--year round here in the PNW. I basically wanted a lightweight portable cook stove that I could use to heat up water for coffee, ramen noodles, and freeze-dried backpacker meals. this stove works GREAT for that! Seems to be very well built and heats 1 liter of cold water to full boil in about 3 minutes. I really wanted to be able to make coffee with this, so I purchased one of the Jetboil silicone french presses, and it works great!! The 1,000mm/grande size works perfect--all I had to do was drill a small hole in the Fire-Maple lid to accept the shaft of the french press plunger/filer, and Voila! Hot yummy coffee with no grounds!! Highly recommend this--all in with coupons etc. I paid $60 for the stove and french press kit--which is about a 1/3 the price of the equivalent Jetboil system. Of course time will tell how well this holds up, but with great reviews and a 3 year warranty I think this is a quality, affordable set-up :)

Pleasantly surprised
I couldn’t bring myself to spend almost 3 times the price of this maple fire set on the “other “ brand. I was willing to roll the dice on this hoping it would at minimum be half as good and at least useable. I am now a fan. This thing is built just as well as the jetb and works great. Solid but very light weight. All the reviews I saw said to be careful with the Coleman brand fuel cans that they don’t really work as the valve seat is made too low. No such issues for me I have both the green and the red Coleman cans and they work just fine. It boils very fast and efficient. I am skeptical when buying cheaper brands of tried and true products but I got to say after trying this out I will be happy to recommend it.

The last time we went backpacking, I was less than impressed with our kitchen setup. I wanted something simple that could handle the cooking needs of 2 people without taking up to much space and could boil water quickly. I think this is perfect. The pot is plenty big for heating up chili or something similar for 2. It is not to deep, so it is easy to use. I preferred this size over the full 1 L, since it will hold 1 L if you fill it slightly below the top. .8 L still leaves about an 1 inch of room from the top. In the home environment it boiled .4L of water in 90 seconds and .8L in less than 3 minutes. Impressive. On a cold camping morning it may take longer, but that is fine. The accessory pot stand is very stable for using a small fry pan. This is the perfect setup I have been looking for and the price was right.
