    4 Stars
Very good product at a good price, but not perfect
I only used the camera for 2 days but here is my first opinion: the video quality is extremely good. I took some video sample by using all the available recording formats and in my opinion it records best in avchd mode, 1080p. You can use 5.1 sound only with this video format. Recording in mp4 only allows 2ch sound. If there is quiet in the room, you will here a background noise (some kind of white noise, like a fan) but when you record actual sound that background noise is gone. Compression is very good in avchd mode: 1 minute of video is about 90 mb (1080p). In mp4 is about 350 mb. When you take pictures while recording, the maximum size of the picture will be 12megapixels but when switching to photo mode you can take pictures at 24megapixels. Picture quality is awesome. I noticed a problem with the focus when moving the camera to fast but you get a warning on the screen that you are moving too fast. In low light conditions, if you record a screen, it changes the colors (example: purple is recorded as blue) - i used auto mode all the time. Also, when using the zoom, if you go to the max value, everything will be blurry and you will have to zoom out a little bit to have the subject clear again. All my tests where in good light conditions. I tried shooting outside during the night but i did not get great results. Because I only tried for 2 minutes during the night i cannot provide an educated opinion yet. You cannot use the menu with the buttons of the camera, only by touching the lcd screen. I am satisfied with the purchase. I will try to shoot some videos soon and upload them on youtube. If any future customer is intersted in seeing some video samples just leave a message and I will provide you with the link.Later edit: after using the camera for a few days i found out some issues. First of all, night pictures aree terrible. I tried taking a picture of seattle at night and in automode the grain is terrible. There is a setting to turn off the light but it keeps turning on in both auto and manual modes. This flash light is not in sync with the camera button, more exactly, you press the button, the light turns on for a fraction of a second, it turns off then the camera takes the picture. So the flashlight is useless in this case, even if it starts after it was turned off completely. I know this is a video cam but if you include still pictures capabilities i will review them. Also, try to check the price regularly. It fluctuates a lot, even with $100 up or down.

I purchased this HC-V770 at 2016. It is still running great.

    Video:
It is at low ambient light that this camcorder shines. I can have a crystal clear video shot on the performers at the last row of the stage from the last row of a music hall.
The manual functionality is fantastic. When auto zoom from afar has difficulty to focus on my kid with a large group of students performing on a stage, the manual functionality can do the focus every time. It will need to go through the user manual though to get used to the manual operation though.

    Audio:
The recorded audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound, a rarity in consumer grade camcorder. You would need a headphone of 5.1 channel or above to enjoy the full audio effect.

    The battery:
A caveat: it still drain small amount of battery when the camcorder is turned off.
I take off the battery when not using the camcorder. After so many years, the battery still runs great.

    I/O:
It has plenty of ports to hook up with other devices like PC and TV. There is no problem in transferring contents or viewing them on another screen.

    The WiFi functionality:
It is a gimmick. Good luck with that.

This is a fantastic camcorder. Its video capability and audio quality far exceeds the highest end of mobile phones currently on the market. My recommendation is: if you can, go and get it.
Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2017
I purchased this camera specifically to film high school lacrosse games and use the high frame rates for slow mo highlights and game film breakdown. Once I found the full manual online(included is abbreviated) I was able to get consistently great slow motion video.
    Several points to make.
#1 The Picture quality is fantastic at 60 FPS and using Adobe Premiere Elements I was able to slow down the 60fps to 12.5% speed and the picture still looks awesome.
#2 When capturing slow mo at 120 fps, what actually happens is the camera creates a file that is twice as long as what you just filmed , shown at 60fps. So the file you download off the card is already playing at half speed. Premiere properties shows 59.95 fps . It is a little confusing, but take a ten second video, then look at what is output, it is 20 seconds long , playing at half speed.
#3 The 120fps video is still at 1080p and looks fantastic. I then can slow it down even more in Premiere (Right Click-Clip-Time Stretch) and the quality is outstanding. Again I got great results stretching the clips out to 8x their original 1/2 speed duration, effectively 480 fps using Adobe Premiere, the 1080p image still looked great.
#4 To get 240 fps, the camera does a post processing operation on the 120fps clip . You do this by going into the Playback Mode, then go into the menu and select the Slw Motion effect and then you are prompted to select the clip on the memory card you wish to post process. It won't let you post process a clip that was not taken in slow mo. You then get a file twice as long as the previous. It does take a reasonable amount of time for the camera to do the post processing.
#5 Slo Mo mode does use memory like crazy, so expect to get a big SD card. Battery capacity(duration) decreases also, so I ordered two additional batteries right away. I can imagine having to swap batteries at half time.
#6 After playing with the 120fps and generated 240fps files, I was so impressed by picture quality of 120fps slowed down using Adobe Premiere that I don't imagine using the 240fps post processing very often. I am sure I will occasionally, but for my needs as a coach, I doubt it will be necessary to get great quality highlight images.
#7 There is a setting in the menu for Recording Setup --Slow Motion Setup. You can choose interval or always. If you use interval, while you are recording the camera will only start recording slow motion when you touch the screen(and keep your finger on the screen) If you use always, then while the camera is recording it will record at 120fps. I switched to always because I kept forgetting to touch the screen.

Very impressed so far and happy with the purchase. It may not allow you to record a water ballon breaking or an arrow slicing through an apple, but it also doesn't cost 10k .

I was a little surprised when I opened the box and found the camera, wrapped in bubble wrap and the AC charger. That was all! Maybe this was a demo model and it works fine but be aware, there is no manufacture box, cables (no usb or power cable), manual, etc. This is the camera and charger ONLY. Not in the original packaging.

I bought this camcorder to upgrade from my GoPro Hero 3. I film my daughters volleyball games and the GoPro is great from the standpoint of not having to worry about it getting damaged from a stray ball, however the image quality isn't that great and the zoom in and out for framing is extremely limited. I was considering getting the GoPro Hero 4 Black which is 4K UHD, but after comparing some sample video I settled on the Panasonic HC-V770. The main reason for this selection come down to the low light handling and the ability to record 1080P at 60 fps with a high data rate. The ability to easily zoom in and out to properly frame the court is great. Another great feature is the ability to charge this thing from a portable USB charger while recording. This is critical for all day tournaments. It's also nice that the display can be flipped around and the hinge closed do that you can see the screen on the outside of the camera while recording yet keeping it tucked into the body so that it doesn't get broken off from a stray ball. Speaking of getting hit by a ball, the camera took several direct and indirect (the tripod) hits throughout the season and the thing still works perfectly. It's just a plastic body camera, but it is rugged to take a licking and keep on ticking...I mean recording. I filmed 52 games this year and everyone of them turned out great, even those in the poorly lit gyms. I am very happy with this camera and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Bonus Pro Tip - Use the manual settings and set the shutter speed to 1/350 (or less depending on light) and set the IRIS to wide open. This will help eliminate motion blur when filming indoor sports.

Drawback - The one drawback for me was that I had to buy a wide angle lens to get the whole court in the frame when filming court side. This degrades the video image just a little by making it soft in the corners. The Panasonic HC-V770 has one of the wider angle lenses of any of the Prosumer cameras I looked at, but it just isn't wide enough. Hint, Hint Panasonic....we would love a wider angle lens to be standard on these cameras.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera!!!

Recorded my daughter's cheer leading routine and the pictures are great. Had no problem handling the dynamic lightening and video/audio are crystal clear.

We have used this camera to record many events with no problems at all. The menus are easy to use to setup the camera to your liking.

The zoom is smooth and crisp at all times, unless some other cameras we tried.

The audio recording is once again crisp and clear with no noise from the zoom or anything else being captured.

Would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a HD camera and not wanting/needing to make the leap in the the 4K level.

The sound quality is very good. I like the size, it is not too small making it difficult to operate. Works well in low light settings. Decent camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera!

My first impression was the great video this camera produces - it really is excellent. Now, after using it in several different situations, all I can say is, it is amazing! It manages lighting variations really well in automatic mode, e.g. it does a great job managing back lit subjects. It records in a wide range of lighting conditions, from well lit subjects down to almost no light.
The camera does not have a viewfinder, however, the screen is still easily visible when in sunlight. The image stabilisation works really well and hand holding the camera produces perfectly acceptable results, even at high zoom ranges.
This camera does not seem to need any extras, with the possible exception of an external microphone if audio is really critical. It is also noted that the camera will run from the DC input jack, making an external power bank a possibility for extended video productions.
In conclusion, this is an fantastic, well made, camera for the price.

Works amazing video HD it was clear and sound was good. It's easy to use and small enough to carry in your coat pocket. I bought extra battery and video card. The conversion from card to Mp4 is best to put on disc. It's overall worth buying

like the camera a lot. I think it is good value for the price. I Like the auto closing of the lens. I would relly recommend this camcorder.
I still haven't figured out stopping the camera from breaking the hour video into two parts.
