Wireless-AC Technology for Powerful Wi-Fi

The Linksys AC1200 Smart Wi-Fi Router features high-speed wireless-AC technology along with dual wireless bands of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with speeds up to N300 Mbps + AC867 Mbps. Replaced an older Linksys N router that was on the fritz (It was over 5 years old, so I think I can say I got my money out of it)
Since my wireless devices have also updated to benefit from the dual-band technologies, This was a clear choice. I am on a 10Mbps Cable connection, and I am getting every bit of that at the end devices. Data transfer between devices is extremely fast (No, sorry I have not ran an internal speed test) but I can say that it is noticeably faster than the old N router was when it was new.

Great router for a great price point. I know that there are newer and faster models available. I also know they cost between 4 to 8 TIMES the price that this one does. I cannot comment if this will work for the power gamers, but for the Netflix streamers, the iPad gamers, and the VPN, Work at home IT Professionals... It works just fine!

The set up was also the easiest that I have ever seen for a wireless device. I have personally set up thousands as a former Geek Squad (In home service) Double Agent.

The product is excellent, and the "Smart Wifi" app is actually quite intuitive, and rather comprehensive, given the amount if improvements recently made to the SOHO level products. I am currently very limited, given that I will have to replace my Linsys "gigabit" cable modem, since their "gigabit" modem is only currently at 100Mbps. Linksys's tech support, on the other hand, leaves a great deal to be desired. All but one of the people to whom I spoke were HEAVILY accented, and at least half of their sentences either have to be repeated, or must be deciphered against their (obviously) far-eastern accents. So much for "American" companies, eh?

Internal throughput appears to be nominal, and in accordance with the device's specs. I will see what happens, once I've received my new cable modem.

This is the most affordable dual band router I've seen on amazon. Especially from linksys. Ive heard Linksys is a good brand and tried it. So far its been great. I am using this with time warner and got this to return the leased box from TWC. The set up was a little complicated at first but I realized I wasnt doing something right. Eventually I got it to work and also finally set up the wifi (ex: change passwords, change names, etc)
They have a phone app too if you want to control your wifi from your phone and set up guest wifis. After getting this, I noticed my internet has been a lot better. The wifi is good and realized the leased box was crappy. It kept going out of signal every few mins. It was the worst at night too. But so far, with this and my netgear modem combined, it has made my internet experience a lot better.

I've read many negative reviews on this product before I bought it but I couldn't find anything negative so far. The only not so great about it is the 5 GHz band limited coverage but it's expected compared to the 2.4 band. So if your wifi devices are not close to the router just use the 2.4 band.

Other than that it has everything I expect a modern wireless router should have including customizable subnet for class a, b & c, guest ssid, good 2.4 band coverage, QoS (tipically for your voip devices or any other ones you like), customizable firewall, ip forwarding, etc.

I have about 20 devices connected to the router including computers, hand held devices, A/V equipments, dlna storage, thermostats and never had any connectivity issues.

I had purchased this a year ago to work around an issue I had with my TiVo box. By the time I got it, the issue was resolved, so I kept it in its box and moved out of state with it. Now in a new house, I had an immediate need for it. One of my original reasons to purchase it is that I assumed that it would wirelessly bridge with my existing network, especially given its price tag.

I've spent probably 2 hours working with the "Smart" setup, struggling the entire way, only to discover that the the Wireless Bridging option doesn't exist. (Including creating a new account, validating it, but now it doesn't recognize my name/pass, and, if I request "Forgot my Password", no email is sent.... How "smart" of you.). Presumably, I can bridge via Ethernet, which is pretty useless to me.

So, back in the box it goes, and I'm off looking for a much more cheaper alternative....
