The price is perfect compared to so many other brands that cost a lot more and provide generally the same features. This remote has turned out to be extremely reliable and has never failed in any regard. It is also simple to program. The batteries last a very long time and the back light is a great feature. The key to the power of this remote is how easily it can learn buttons from other remotes! It solid and feels great in the hand and allows me to control up to four devices at once. I have a Roku TV (Element brand from Wal-Mart), a Tivo Roamio OTA and an XBox One. This remote easily and simply controls all of them.
XBox One features:
The INT-422-3 comes pre-programmed to control XBox One consoles on the "B" button. This worked perfectly out of the box for our needs and I did not need to do any additional programming for XBox as we only use the remote when watching DVD/Bluray movies. For all other XBox functions we use the game controllers.
Tivo Roamio OTA:
We cut the cord a few years ago and cancelled our Cable/Satellite subscriptions and decided to use free over-the-air network channels along with streaming services. While we absolutely love the Tivo product, the Tivo "peanut" remotes have caused me nothing but headaches. My Tivo remote will occasionally just go to sleep and not do anything at all even after replacing the batteries. I even bought another "peanut" remote thinking I had a bad one but it does the same thing. This was another reason I purchased the INT-422-3. It was easy to find a working remote code on universalremotes.net (hint, it's under "Cable Set Top Boxes"->Tivo. The code is 03560). However, I ended up having to teach the INT-422-3 several buttons from the Tivo remote. The colored A, B, C and D buttons are sequentially the same but the colors are out of order on my Inteset remote so I used the "Learning a button" feature to reprogram all of them to the correct order by color. Please note that the Tivo "peanut" normally operates in RF mode so I had to force it into IR mode by holding the "Tivo" button and red "D" buttons at the same time. I then used the "Learning a button" feature to map the "thumb up"/"thumb down" buttons to two buttons at the very bottom of the Inteset remote. The label sheet provided with the INT-422-3 doesn't have anything that equates to "thumb up" or "thumb down" so I cut out a "D" and "U" from some unused labels and used those. I am also planning to use the Macro functions of the Inteset to create "jump" buttons for the apps I use on Tivo frequently but I haven't done this yet so I can't comment on how well it works.
I purchased a Roku TV from Wal-Mart last fall made by Element. The Inteset comes from the factory with Roku functionality pre-programmed on the "D" button but this did not work for my TV at all. So I went to universalremotes.net to find a working code for my new TV. I had a little trouble finding a remote code for my specific TV but was able to get most functions working using the "Roku TV-TCL*" code (14398) I found in the "TV" category. My Roku remote is an Infrared (IR) remote which is important for configuring the Inteset to control my TV because there is NO WAY to replicate an RF only remote. I was able to program specific Roku buttons using the simple "Learn a button" feature to program certain buttons directly from my Roku remote. The buttons I ended up having to "learn" was the "*", "Back 10 seconds" and the streaming provider "jump" buttons (Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc). I also used the "Programming Button-mover" feature to copy the "Play/Pause" button in Roku mode to the "||" (pause) button. There are labels on the provided label sheet for the streaming services. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to program a "jump" button that will pull up Amazon's Video streaming service through the Roku. So I will attempt to use the Macro function to do it through the Tivo.
All in all, this has been an excellent remote that is reliable and easy to program. My only gripe is that the label sheet provided with the remote doesn't have ANY labels for Tivo, like "Tivo" or "Thumb Up" or "Thumb Down" or even simple arrow labels. I ended up using a "TV" label in place of a proper "Tivo" label. Hopefully Inteset will add Tivo-specific labels to their label sheet some day.
On the plus side:
1. The code support for TVs, DVR/PVRs and streamers is good.
2. The remote has a nice solid feel.
3. It has lots of buttons for obscure features like PIP.
4. Learning mode works better than any other universal remote I've had.
However, there are some cons:
1. Inteset has just a handful of codes for audio equipment; that's a far cry from being "programmed with the device codes for every TV, computer and A/V device known." None of the codes worked with my receiver; I had to learn them all from the remote that came with it.
2. The Tivo code assigns skip ahead and skip back to two buttons in the PIP section. This is doubly strange because the remote has labeled buttons for those features. You have to move the functions to the correct buttons yourself. The Inteset support forum has a post about how to do that; search for "roamio".
3. The remote has a glossy finish around the upper buttons that really shows fingerprints.
4. Four devices is pretty limiting.
With all that said -- it does in fact work with everything that I programmed it for, but it took a couple of trips to the support forums and some learn-mode programming to get it all to work.
PRO TIP: Many TVs have codes to directly select a specific input like HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc. This is great for programming a device macro. Problem is, the factory remotes usually can't send those codes. HOWEVER -- if you have an Android phone with an IR blaster, set up the Peel Smart Remote app to switch your TV directly to a specific inputs (using the Activity feature). Then use the learning mode on the remote to teach it the direct-input codes from Peel. Works like a charm.
Top reviews from other countries
Through the learning feature on this remote, I have been able to program it to control the volume and input selection functions of my receiver, regardless of the device the remote is set to control, as well as the input selection function of my TV in the same situation. As far as I can tell, almost all of the non-function selection buttons are programmable and as a result, if the remote doesn't feature a button allocated for a specific function, you can program it to. This has now replaced the remote for the AV receiver, the TV, the Media Centre and the Xbox. I suspect that this could basically replace any remote control which utilises an IR connection thanks to its learning function and for those devices which don't use IR (Amazon Fire Stick for example), Inteset sell an adapter (albeit I have no experience with this). It's very, very good and I'm contemplating grabbing a spare.
First up, I have 4 devices that i want it to control
1/ Samsung TV
2/ Onkyo AV receiver
3/ Roku
4/ Vodafone TV (Android TV box)
According to the instructions once you find the code that turns your device off you have the right code.
But a remote needs to do more than just turn something on and off.
I found a code for the TV and AV receiver to power on/off but then had to use the original remotes to teach the interset the rest.
The ROKU was pre-programmed and did work out of the box.
The vodafone TV i could not find a code that worked at all but it did learn from the original remote
So after probably a couple of hours it did control my four devices.
No matter which device i am using i always use the AV receiver for sound so more programming was required to have that function.
But i want this remote to replace a harmony 650, so i want the Interset to turn on the TV and AV receiver switch TV to HDMI 2 and switch the AV receiver to TV/CD with the press of one button and then be ready to control the ROKU
Now my ROKU is playing up and i want to use the Vodafone TV with the Harmony 650 it is a 2 button press operation to power on the Vodafone TV and switch the TV to HDMI 3 and be ready to control the Vodafone TV.
So after several hours of programming the remote, it does do the one button press ROKU operation but not the Vodafone TV one at this point in time.
So my conclusion is that it does work and control all of my devices, but i would not replace my Harmony with the Interset 4 in 1 voluntarily.
One more thing, the back-lit keys are good but would be better if it lite up when you picked it up instead of a button press.
EDIT: After much perseverance i have got it to a point where it will do what i want which is one button press to turn on 3 devices and operate the required functions without having to switch between devices.
This remote is in no way easy to setup if you want to streamline the number of buttons that you have to push.
In the end i had to set up 4 macro buttons, 2 each for the ROKU and Android TV.
1 macro button each being to turn everything on from a cold start a second macro button for each to switch from one to the other.
The reason for the second being required is if i tried to switch between the 2 media players with the first button it just turns everything off.
So if you like a challenge, this is the remote for you
