One of my laptops crashed (software crash) and I took a shot to recover irreplaceable family photos I had on the hard drive. This plugged right in and I was able to read the data off the hard drive just like it was any other external drive. Tech shops will charge hundreds of dollars for “data recovery”. This can do the same thing for a fraction of the price assuming your hard drive is still functional

Fairly cheap, simple and easy to use. It doesn’t need any special software and it’s even pretty fast with the USB 3.0 connection. Now I can just use my spare drives like USBs!

Only negative I can think of is there isn’t an eject option when I right click the drive. You have to go to the taskbar and in the bottom right where all the icons are select “Safely remove hardware and eject media” to tell it to Eject it. A little tedious but not a huge hassle.

I mess around with different OSes and software constantly...I used to have a "harvested" USB to 2.5" Hard drive adapter - it was a naked board and you have to be careful handling those. This is the same thing but better - it has a USB 3 cable and the interface is protected with a thick neoprene jacket - you can't kill it. Just plug it into a spare drive and plug it into your computer - PRESTO! You can read that drive - move files, format it, anything. I use these to setup an OS on an SSD and then just install the drive, ready to go in a new computer. You can't miss and it's safe from spills and dropping it won't kill it. Cheap, durable and fast enough. Love it.
