MERV Rating
MERV = 'Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value' this is used to rate the overall effectiveness of an Air Filter. Below you will find a table that measures the MERV strength and tells you the Application of each unit's effectiveness. In general an Air Filter with a higher MERV Rating is more effective and has a broader application, but most residential homes will find the best use from an air filter between the 5-12 MERV rating.

About Honeywell
Honeywell's roots reach to 1885, when an inventor named Albert Butz patented the furnace regulator and alarm. He formed the Butz Thermo-Electric Regulator Co., Minneapolis, in April, 1886, and soon invented a device he called the "damper flapper” – an ingenious predecessor to the modern thermostat.
Here's how it worked. When a room cooled below a predetermined temperature, a thermostat closed the circuit and energized an armature. This pulled the stop from the motor gears, allowing a crank attached to the main motor shaft to turn one-half revolution. A chain connected to the crank opened the furnace's air damper to let in air. This made the fire burn hotter. When the temperature rose to the preset level, the thermostat signaled the motor to turn another half revolution, closing the damper and damping the fire. The temperature correction was automatic. Over the years, many Honeywell products have been based upon similar, but more complicated closed-loop systems.

great flow and filtration performance
Own a HVAC business with my uncle, my grandfather put the electronic system in years ago at the business location, so used this filter when it went out. Worked very well, great flow and filtration performance. This filter lasted about 6-8 months. Filter life really depends on a lot of factors...Usage - if you live in a cold or hot environment (such as us in Tucson, AZ) and your system is running quite often then filter life will decrease.Pets - if you have annals which shed definitely expect a decline in filter performance cheaper 1 inch filters are bad after a month around hereDust/Pollen - Outside elements and seasonal allergens mess with filters as well and heavy traffic in and out of a house/ structure affects that as well. Vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning regularly will help with this and prolong filter life plus it keeps your place clean and more breathable (applies to pets as well).This is experience from being in a HVAC biz and my biggest recommendation is to check your filters regularly! We have had so many calls come in where people had problems with their system and it turned out to just be a filter that was horribly clogged up or a filter was so clogged up it caused the compressor to fry. So check your filters! It will help avoid expensive repairs or a technician saying you're low on refrigerant when you're really not.Pictures are filters way past needing changed.
