    This filter is perfect, new, and exactly as the original filter was pulled from my brand new humidifier. These are aluminum with a smooth milky white coating on them that helps hold the water so it can be picked up as the air blows across ,and dry quickly when not in use. They are NOT soft paper that act as a sponge and promote mold from being constantly wet. The paint mark is an inspection mark, and is on the filter intentionally and has zero impact on the filter. SO... If your filter is metal, white and crusty (not smooth) or has dirt in it, its used. If it comes out of the box and is paper, its not real AprilAire. Simple as that. If it looks like the picture (different color inspection marks are possible) it is real, new, and you have what you are supposed to have.
