One of, if not the main issue, with training knives is that they lack the weight of the real thing. You spend months working tricks with the training knife and then you get the real deal? The added weight throws your muscle memory and timing off, and you have to spend time training tricks again that you swore you had down pat. While the overall shape of this training knife is not your typical butterfly, the weight however is very VERY similar to the an actual blade, making it ideal for proper training.
The black, red and gold design is nice, and the gold color has JUST enough shine to be aesthetically pleasing, but not too gaudy and bright that you're afraid you're going to go blind just by looking at the damn thing.
My only possible criticism of this is the screw/washer part of the design. I know that some trainers have their handles secured with rivets, but I honestly don't know which is better overall in terms of extended use.
