Ok guys/gals. There may be an issue on some systems with the latest Windows 10 updates getting this hard drive to play nice. Here are the steps I took to get it installed and working correctly after a lot of trouble. You may not have to do this with yours, but this is the only way I could get it to format to NTFS and be usable on my system. First, disable auto-run in the device settings for windows 10. Next plug in the drive while holding down the shift key. When/if windows asks you to format the drive, click "cancel". Proceed to the device manager and find the drive under "disk drives". Right click and choose "properties" and then "update" driver. Tell windows that you want to choose the driver and look for it on the disk and then choose to find it on a list of available drivers and then choose the "hard drive" driver. Windows will update the driver. Then go back into properties for the drive and then "policies" and set the drive for "performance" and do NOT let it use write caching for the drive. Now open up disk management and find the drive. Right click it and then choose to "Shrink" the drive and set the size for 1/2 of the drive size, which was 500 GB or so for mine. You are basically making the drive into two partitions that will give you two drive letters instead of one. Now that you have partitioned it to a size that Windows will not grump about, you can proceed to "Quick" format the drive partitions to NTFS. It will take about a minute or two for both. Once that is done, you will finally be able to use it. All in all, the drive is pretty good so far, but you just have to play games with Windows to get it to work right on some systems with Windows 10. Mine was the 64 bit professional version. I can't give it any higher rank because of the whole driver issue, but other than that, it's a decent drive so far. You just have to rip a few of your grey hairs out in order for it to work right on some picky systems.
