I was blown away by this rendition of the classic movie. I knew there was a musical but to be honest had never heard any of it nor seen it. So when i tuned in i did so begrudgingly for i wanted the movie not a musical. But within the first 5 minutes i was smiling and that smile lasted for the entire live performance. I then promptly purchased the soundtrack and have purchased the video on amazon.

During the holiday season i watched this 4 times did not watch the TV version and will not going forward. If the negative review people would stop for one second and just take in the amazing talent these kids have, how amazing the adults were how Mya was amazing as the mother and how Jane Kr.... not trying to spell her name was sensational in "you'll shoot your eye out" which was the most amazing musical segment i have ever seen with the kids and music and set .... if they could just take in the neat tip of the hat on how they did TV magic and changed sets with the same person , how in the end this was a LIVE MUSICAL that had very few stumbles and multiple dance and song routines that went off without a hitch.... I think they would re assess their review of this show. We have very few wholesome shows out there anymore seems they are either political or for some social justice agenda inserting a certain demo into shows to make a political statement... this show was just FUN plain ole fun and an instant christmas classic. I think the problem with them all is whenever a network does a huge production like this the MSM dogs it and Twitter goes all twitter making fun, poking holes and criticizing them .... I wish they wouldnt we need more things like this for families to sit down and have something they and their kids can watch , laugh, sing and enjoy if only for a once and a while event. We have plenty of time to brainwash and push agendas and heavy subjects on our kids to ensure they vote a certain way ( that goes for left and right) every once and a while it is nice to let them just be kids and let a family just have fun

Saw the original musical at the theater in Madison Square Garden the holiday season when it first came out and we loved it. When it was produced at a local theater with professional actors / singers / dancers, we liked it all over again and I had begun wishing that it might be released on a DVD. I only just discovered the DVD this Christmas, taken from a partly altered live TV presentation which I also somehow missed. But that misfortune aside, I was thrilled to learn of it and ordered immediately. The only reason for three instead of four stars is 1) the commercials or public service announcements have been left in. And although they are in the same spirit as the play, they intrude on the flow of the production. 2) the absolutely hilarious leg lamp dance has been considerably toned down. In the original production, multiple legs in fishnet stockings were held by chorus members and kicked-up, Rockette-style during the song but in the TV show, this has been changed to just dancers in lampshade dresses. 3) The opening number is off-putting in it's MTV-like style and is not in any way compatible to the story that follows. Despite these "flaws", however, I would highly recommend this disc to anyone who loves "A Christmas Story". And who doesn't??
