Product Description

This capacitor is used for start-up and operation of AC motors with frequency of 50Hz/60Hz such as air conditioners, compressors and motors. It is small in size, lightweight, heat resisting and anti-explosion.

Round capacitor can be used to substitute oval shape one with the same MFD AND Volt specs.

A 440 volt capacitor can be used in place of a 370 volt, as it is build better, but the 370 can’t be used in place of a 440 volt.

Capacitor worked, but didn't fit my pool pump

Capacitor worked, but didn't fit my pool pump
I bought this capacitor to replace one on my Pentair pool pump. It is slightly larger. Due to the increased diameter, I couldn't fit the cover back on my pump. To ensure my pump issue was the capacitor, I hooked up the capacitor and the pump began working instead of buzzing. My fault on the size issue. For some reason I only considered the added length of this capacitor when I should have been concerned about the diameter. Live and learn.

Always try changing the capacitor before you do anything else to a pool motor. Mine was humming again. It had froze up during a hard freeze, but started working again. Motor turned off on regular schedule and I was out of town. Luckily nothing cracked, but motor tried turning on while pump was slightly frozen. Overheated. I ordered this one just in case it went out again. Sure enough walked outside this morning and it was humming and overheating. I went to install the new one and it was the wrong size, thus being a idiot. I managed to rig it safely and ordered the correct one, will be here tomorrow. This one will now be my emergency capacitor. LOL

Easy to install and works great.

My main pool pump motor was humming when I went to start it but it would not run. I isolated the breaker to the pump prior to troubleshooting the issue. I confirmed that the pump impeller was freely turning by hand and determined I either had a bad start capacitor or a bad motor. The start capacitor being the most likely culprit and the cheapest most accessible part to replace, I proceeded to remove the start capacitor.
There were two screws that held the capacitor cover in place and also two wires that attached to the terminals on the capacitor. I used insulated needle nose pliers and an insulated screw driver while removing the capacitor.
The capacitor is like a battery and may be holding a charge so do not touch the set of terminals with your bare hands or non insulated tools. After removing the capacitor simply lay it down and use your insulated screw driver to make contact across the set of terminals on the capacitor to safely discharge any energy that may be stored in the capacitor.
With the capacitor discharged it is now safe to handle. Record any make and model #’s along with the length and circumference of the capacitor, with this information you can quickly cross reference this information in a Amazon search to find the proper capacitor for your application, most parts can be shipped Amazon Prime next day.
After verification that you received the correct capacitor reinstall the two wires on top of the capacitor (the wires are interchangeable so it doesn’t matter which wire is connected to each terminal / 1 per side), reinstall cover with 2 screws. Turn on the breaker to the pump and start your pump at the local switch. The total cost was $13.00 delivered to my door. If you are not confident that you can make this repair then hire a professional pool technician their charge for this job will be between $125 - $150.

If the compressor fan on your AC unit is running but you’re not getting cool air inside, it may be a bad run capacitor in the compressor. The first time my AC run capacitor went bad, it cost me $145.00 for the tech to come replace it. Ever since then, I’ve kept one around as a spare. Make sure you check your specs as there are many different capacitance values. Turn off power to the unit, take off the housing guard around the capacitors (might be one for the fan as well) and swap it out. Ten minutes and save yourself more than $100.00. Over the past 35 years, I’ve had to replace mine a few times.

I could fix my pool pump with this, however it is a little bigger than the original condensator. I had to use another type of attach to fix it.

Sad to say the overall diameter of this product is 54 mm or about 2 -1/8 inches. This may seem minor until you try to fit it in the compartment.

Physically the can dimensions are slightly too large to fit in the cover without distorting the capacitor can. The cover was oversized a bit even for a 350 VAC cap but this one was too large
