    The best selling feature - No Monthly Fee - really?

    The best selling feature - No Monthly Fee - really?
    One of the best or greatest feature or selling point of this product is that, it advertises "No Monthly Fee". If it is really what it advertises and can last for at least 1~2 years, I think it is worth for the price and be a great product.So, I think it is fair for me to start it with 4 stars first, if after a year or so, it is still working and requires No fee from me, and no issue, I will upgrade it to a 5 stars.Yes, it is working upon receiving, there is a little pair of codes in the mini booklet to "activate" the service/device. Once it is done(in less than few minutes), the app can receive the location reported by the GPS tracker.The tracker is smaller than what I expected, it can be easily thrown in kid's backpack for tracking when they are on field trip!The magnet works, but not strong to the point that I can trust it and put it under a car and not worry its falling. So, potentially it can "stick" or magnetically adhere or a metal wall, object or something, but don't expect it can stick well up to something but not falling down upon shaking.There is a button, but I can't find instructions on what it is and what can it do, I will assume it is a power button.There is a "flap" on the side of this tracker, upon opening it, the nano sim can be exposed and the USB-C charging port.Upon a full charge(100%), active moving vehicle, and refresh rate is 180 seconds, it drops about 6% per 2 hours.If there is no movement, it will/may last longer.That's real-life numbers I experienced.The app is just ok, not very user friendly nor intuitive, but it works. The update rate has several "presets" which may be ok for some users, but I find definitely not enough. For example, 180s(3min), next jump is 30mins, I would prefer something in between so that I can balance the power saving and the frequency of updates. If there is an option for "manual" update frequency input, that will be great.So, and of course, there is NO "adaptive" update - which provides more frequent update if object is moving faster vs it slows down the update if object is moving slower or stationary.Anyway, at least the app can provide basic function of locating where the tracker is.I don't find any 3rd party integration available in the app or using the device with other app.As a result, there are TWO key points to keep in mind for purchasing this product:1. Hope the "No Monthly Fee" claim can stay true as long as it should.2. The proprietary app is continue to work and have updates throughout its life.If the above 2 assumptions stay true for at least one or two years, then this product is worth for what its features provided.

    As a retired privacy/security consultant, I find this a remarkable value with great functionality. The no-cost service which is included, via phone app, is remarkably flexible. I had been looking for something to track the location of my expensive ebike, which is loaded with accessories which and cargo items worth as much as the bike. While that includes an alarm and I do have a lock, the loss of the bike would work hardships on me due physical handicap and lack of any other form of transportation. Previously available options involved service charges which I would find troublesome, financially... I'm a stringent tightwad who hates both the notion of subscriptions of any kind, as well as having to have passwords. I also abhor the idea of the Cloud, because some day, any day, I expect to learn of massive security breaches because someone has found a way to hack the Cloud. It is only a matter of time, and one of the biggest Cloud providers is Red China, and one does not often know who's Cloud they are using. Not sure I'd want anything sensitive, valuable, or proprietary, on their Cloud.

    If I had had these as a parent, I would have been a lot more comfortable letting my kids roam the neighborhood when younger, and about teen safety when older, should they turn up late or be unreachable when needed. 'Yes, you can go to (another city) with your friend, but please use the tracker, in case something goes wrong and you can't call.' I'm imagining Taken, the movie scenario, here... an extra layer of security for those things which should never happen, but can have terrible consequence, when they do.

    Likes: good value, easy to install and set up: download the App, answer a few questions, done. Flexible App allows all manner of after-the-fact information about the tracked item or person's activities. Accuracy actually seems superior to most non military GPS systems I've played with in my day, though I'm guessing that accuracy varies dependent upon quality of cell tower signals and locations. Warns you when you should think about recharging.

    Dislikes: It seemed to require recharging sooner that I would have expected, and I had a good deal of trouble plugging in the USB cord to the tracker... tight fit. There are super-tiny lights inside which are not explained in the minimal instructions which employ very fine print... you will want a magnifier if your vision isn't super. The water-proof compartment for charging does not like to be opened, and really hates being closed; I was unable to achieve the original seal/fit. Not exposed to moisture in my use.

    First off let me start by saying I am not a Vine user and was not given the product for free to write a review. The unit works well. It has a good app that works with both iOS and Android and is easy to navigate. Battery life is Ok. You will have to charge often if you drive a lot. I have been charging it about once a week. I want to state how good their customer service is. At first I was worried about the battery drainage. I contacted them and they addressed my issue immediately. If the unit lasts a year or more it's definitely worth the $99. price mark. Save on that $15 a month subscription price you pay with other companies and get this device!

    Been testing this for a few days so far and I'm pretty impressed with it. It's got a lot of features and alerts so you can customize that as needed. I'm using it for my car and it's got a signal simply just in the door cup holder space. Although the magnet is very strong I'm not sure I'd want to attach it outside of the vehicle as it could fall off from a strong road bump... The battery used 15% in approx 48 hours... so you are going to need to charge this at least once a week it seems to me. The app is really polished and seems like a great bug free app. The device does enter a low battery state when it's not moving. I'm noticing also that even when the car is in the garage, I'll get a trip started notification, which is a little alarming, seeming like someone is driving your car when it's just in the garage. Hope we can sort that out, but other than that it's a great tracker and can even help you remember where you parked. the location is pretty precise on the map. The no subscription thing is kinda mind boggling how they pull this off, but because of that alone I'd give it an easy 5/5 stars. If you are not wanting to charge it frequently I think there is an obd2 port version... I would take a look at that one too.

    Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
    First of all, I need to recognize the "No Subscription" is not a gimmick. Out of the box, i was able to connect the device and was able to see this in the app. There is no mention on the length of the connection, one can assume that this is "lifetime". I have been using this device for a couple weeks now and feel that I have enough experience to write a review.

    First on the hardware/device. It is well built and has a nice weight to it. it is on the bulky side, small foot print but thick. the outer case is made of rigid plastic and has a magnet on the base. Magnet strength is decent. There are no displays on the device, only three LED indicators. Simply turn it on and let it do its job. Battery claim of 5 days seems to be accurate. To extend battery life, i have this connected to the cars USB port, this way, it gets charged when the car is turned on during the drive. So far, no more battery life concerns.

    Then there is the app. The app seems to be "limited" and i feel that it is holding back the overall experience and usage of the device. If you are simply wanting to see current locations then it is sufficient. A few comments about the app;

    1,) Accuracy is acceptable, currently the device is sitting in my driveway, but in the app, it shows that it is 5 houses down the street. Accuracy improves here and there, and i suspect that this is dependent on which type of transmission its connected to, GPS or triangulated cell towers. This is also likely the reason why sometimes i get alerted that a Trip has been Started even though it is clear im not moving the car. It could be the signal jumping from one cell tower to another.

    2.) There is no manual way to start or end a trip. The app thinks that i had a 9 hour trip yesterday even though its multiple trips with hours of stops in between.

    3.) The app does not provide current battery status of the device.

    4.) Location updates is inconsistent, sometimes its every minutes and sometimes its every 3 minutes.

    5.) Map viewing while device is moving is glitchy. When tracking my device during a trip, the map keeps zooming out when i try to zoom into where my device is moving.

    I was excited to review this device since its a step up from my standard BLE trackers. Even it offers a little more than what a standard BLE tracker, and with no subscription required, the app limits the potential of a GPS tracker. It is fun to have and provides the basic location information. For my personal use, i just wish it could do more. Hopefully, there will be an app update that will address my concerns.
