Makes an excellent macro lens when used with a reversing ring

I got this specifically to use with a reversing ring to attach it bayonet-end outward on the front of my 50-200mm zoom for use as a macro lens. It works very well - allowing, of course, for the limits of all macro photography. The manual diaphragm ring is great - the manual focus is irrelevant, and the optics (and coatings) work just fine with the digital camera because, after all, the main lens is a DA meant for digital use. This is just the "pre" lens, like a filter.

A good workhorse prime-lens

This is a vintage K-mount prime lens, but it barely shows its age if you set aside its lack of autofocus. It does only one thing, but it does it exceptionally well. I have a 30-200mm lens that covers the distance on this lens, but it does not have the same quality or f-stops at 50mm as this product. Performs as well as a modern Pentax prime lens of this level, but at 3-4x less price. Would purchase other lenses as needed from this company. Lack of zoom on this lens is basically "Learn to shift more", not a weakness. I use it on a K-x , but there is no reason why you couldn't use it on any Pentax K-mount camera ever built since every setting except exposure time, ISO setting or zoom can be controlled with the rings on this lens.

The classic M-series Pentax lenses are gems. I just switched back to Pentax from Canon and realize that for a fraction of the money I can get some of the best SLR lenses available. It's pure metal and glass not like new "cheapies glass" made out of plastic. This lens really shines once you realize that AF is not necessary. It is sharp out to the edges, there is hardly any CA and the bokeh is nice and smooth. A true classic that will last a hundred years.

1.7 aperture, low light wonderful
Great for micro 4/3 (micro four thirds), as 50mm is translated to appx 20mm. This is
the same as the $300 pancake lens, probably better for video. VIDEO. For stills or on the go,
the autofocus of the 4/3 pancakes is obviously better.
