    I have built four AM5 builds now for my home PC's (two 7600x and two 7800x3D) and each time I buy one of these. I dislike the odd design of the 7000 series integrated heat spreader as it is far harder to clean up thermal compound when uninstalling a CPU. I looked into what could help and ended up going with these as a inexpensive very well engineered mounting plate that performs multiple slight benefits. Certainly this isn't needed but for me thanks to the low cost I buy them anyway.

    1.) Less thermal compound is true, it doesn't make a perfect seal but compound doesn't get down as far on the cpu making it easier to clean up when moving the CPU to a new build or selling it.
    2.) Certainly provides even pressure completely around the CPU unlike factory method where it pushes down at two spots.
    3.) Might even help with temps with possibly not flexing the CPU thanks to the even pressure.
    4.) It just looks great and in some builds you can actually see this behind the cooler which is a bonus as it looks amazing.

    None of these are HUGE reasons to buy one but they are nice to have and I plan on buying them when more of my AM4 systems are moved over to AM5.

    These CPU holders are more of a necessity on the Intel side but it's cheap so I picked it for for my AM5 build. Installation is straight forward and quick.

    This next part is informational. This is NOT a con for this product but more to help others not make the mistake I did - 100% user error.

    If you have this CPU holder installed and your swapping out your CPU, after unscrewing the 4 bolts, make sure to apply light pressure to hold the CPU in place while pulling out the CPU holder.

    I didn't do this and the CPU lifted off with it -about an inch- and fell back into the socket. Spent the next few hours unbending the pins. Again, not the fault of the product.

    5 star and highly recommend to others.

    Thermalright ASF-Black AM5 CPU Holder for AM5 - there were a couple of different options for a contact frame or thermal paste guard. at just under $9 this was the cheapest. I think a metal cover beats a silicon cover and it looks great... at least until you cover it with a cooler and then you cant see it anyway. it comes with the screws, the tool for installation and thermal paste. Per a recommendation I put a pad under the motherboard (with the Mylar bag the motherboard came in, in between) so when I removed the screws the plate on the bottom of the motherboard didn't fall off. With that recommendation removing the old CPU holder and installing this one was the easiest part of building this PC.I thought this might be unnecessary on an AM5 but am really glad I bought it. It took about 45 minutes to install the AOI and the thermal paste was spread EVERYWHERE. Without this I think most of the thermal paste would have ended up in the cutouts which may have been harmless but would have really annoyed me.

    I'm a little surprised by the number of reviewers claiming that installation was "easy" given that the backplate falls off the back of the motherboard once you remove the CPU ILM.

    It wasn't immediately obvious to me as to why the screws where failing to thread into the motherboard until I found a comment on one of their installation videos which pointed out that the backplate had likely fallen out onto the back of the case which required that I disassemble the entire PC, and remove the motherboard just to install this CPU frame.

    Performance wise It had very little if any impact on CPU temperatures.

    I would say that the only upside to this product is cleaner application of thermal paste especially given the design of the new AM5 processors.

    The build also looks a bit cleaner with the CPU frame so there's that as well although you likely won't notice if you're using a air cooler which sits on top of it.

    With the AMD cpu been so solid this wont be needed to stop any "bend" unlike the intel but with the notches it will stop your thermal paste going everywhere....if you can get it at a good price it makes everything look more solid and you wonder why with the price of these motherboards why wasn't this something they had already
