Fresh Sound for Vintage Record Players

The GOgroove phono preamp boosts your turntable's phono audio level up to a more speaker/stereo receiver-friendly line level, giving you better volume and increased sound quality. If you're planning on hooking up your turntable to a computer, stereo receiver, bookshelf speakers or any other modern audio equipment, you're going to want this preamp to get the high sound quality that you expect from vinyl.

connection record player amp preamp preamplifier compact mini RCA

RIAA certification equalization equalizer clear audio sound music player phono preamp amp

RCA volt v AC adapter input output cable phono mini preamp

Modernize Your Equipment

You'll want the preamp to connect to the phono output of the turntable and the line input of the receiver/speakers. And even newer turntables that may feature a built-in preamp probably aren't going to give you the highest quality sound that could be achieved from an external preamp.

Clear Sounding Audio

Complete with RIAA equalization which recognizes that the phono preamp creates smooth equalization for balanced, clear audio. Helps limit distortion and for the best quality sound, make sure to securely plug in all cables.

Quick, Easy Setup

You don't need to be a sound engineer or techie to understand this preamp's setup process. It takes only a minute to power up the preamp with it's included 12 Volt DC Adapter. After that , it's just a matter of using RCA cables (NOT INCLUDED) to hook the preamp to both your turntable and your stereo receiver, speakers or other audio device.

I went for the 3-band equalizer version and really like it. It also has a headphone jack that allows me to adjust the settings of the pre-amp output before the main amp. Leaving the equalizer settings in the middle gives the RIAA equalization, but I add a little bass to mine. I also like that gain is adjustable and that there is a clipping indicator. There is no hum or rumble for my setup. The build quality feels very good too. In all it is a well thought out device and good value for the money.

this isn't going to change the actual quality of your turntable setup, but if you're like me with a bare bones receiver/amplifier it gives you better control over your overall sound and works well. being able to control the input gain is a nice touch, and having MIDS control really helps adjust the sound from record to record. ALSO just having a direct headphone output (and volume control) is super handy.

at $99 it's a little more expensive than i'd like, since you can get a cheap phono preamp for about $20, but if you dont have a robust stereo receiver or amplifier with bells and whistles and you already need a phono preamp, this is a fun and effective option.

I asked for a GOgroove phonostage (the non-pro version) for Christmas with the goal of hooking Dad's old YP-211 up to a Google Home Max (yes, I know ADC defeats the purpose of vinyl, don't @ me). I got everything hooked up earlier this week and it sounded fine, if a bit too quiet compared to the Max's "internal" digital audio sources. The AT cartridge in this turntable has always been on the quiet side, but switching the Max from the aux input to e.g. Spotify would really blow your socks off. And while I admittedly don't have the best ear, I thought the bass was a bit lacking.

I said to myself, "This is good, but it would be great if it had a gain knob and a power button." Lo and behold, there's a brand new PRO version with exactly those features—plus a few others! It got delivered a couple days early so I get to play with it over the weekend. Fortunately, my wife and daughter are at a baby shower, so I can listen to my Tony Bennett records as loud as I want.

Suffice it to say, it's a worthwhile upgrade. The +10dB makes a huge difference—roughly doubling the volume as one would expect. The power button is smartly located on the top of the unit, making it super easy to toggle even though I've hidden the phonostage behind the Max. And I even think it sounds better, although I'm interested to see what audiophiles make of the built-in EQ cf. the non-pro version.

I'm still playing with the rumble filter although I think I prefer the airy-ness of the flat curve. I will probably never use the DIN I/O or the built-in headphone amp, but it's nice to know they're there. All in all, great job GOgroove!

This little item worked great on my turntable!

After moving to a new home and after thirty plus years, I decided to hook up my stereo and my turntable. The receiver did not have a "phono preamp" or an input for the phono.

This devices does what it need to do; it amplifies the volume from the turntable, into the receiver. The output is fantastic!

One thing; you'll need a set of RCA wires to attach to the output side of the preamp, into the receiver. This unit did not comes with these wires.

I want to give this a good review. Nice design & build quality. The sound is "hollow". I know everyone uses these subjective terms and this is mine. The highs are not crisp when the high hats are hit, the mids are not there when the lead guitars grind and the bass is not there when the bass drums punch. It's hollow across the whole range. I've tried it with 2 turntables and 2 powered speaker systems. I don't want to equalize my sound if I can avoid it. Like many other reviewers, I'm always looking for a little upgrade in my sound. The pre-amp on my Dual CS 429 turntable, the build in pre in both my Kanto and Klipsch powered monitors (paired to Velodyne & Sonance subs respectively) are all better than this pre. I gave it a fair shot and it's just not an upgrade. I did buy the Ampapa A1 pre for substantially more and I can enthusiastically say that is an upgrade. Sorry GOgroove, I'm just being honest.

I purchased this to added a Marantz 6150 TT to my bedroom Marantz NR1608. It works as a phono preamp, but the sound quality was terrible. My Marantz 6150 sounded muddled and the preamp had no Bass or Mid.

I returned it and went with the iFi Audio Zen Air Phono preamp instead. The iFi Audio Zen Air Phono preamp sounds much better; night and day.

I restored an old record changer, and the low end output was terrible, probably because it's 50 or so years old. This preamp makes it sound like new. The equalizer is a great feature too, everything sounds warm and beefy. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes older hi-fi equipment.

I find a built-in phono amp just not sufficient, but the GoGroove pre amp pro with EQ solved that problem. Gave me the EQ precision I needed to listen to vinyl just how I (or anyone) wants to listen. Worth the money and it looks right sharp as an accessory. Hey also, their customer service is A1 as well!
