W.E.B. Griffin is the author of more than thirty epic novels in five series, all of which have been listed on The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly and other best-seller lists. More than forty million of his books are in print in more than ten languages, including Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, and Hungarian. Mr. Griffin grew up in the suburbs of New York City and Philadelphia. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1946. After basic training, he received counter-intelligence training at Fort Holabird, Maryland. He was assigned to the Army of Occupation in Germany, and ultimately to the staff of then-Major General I.D. White, commander of the U.S. Constabulary. In 1951, Mr. Griffin was recalled to active duty for the Korean War, interrupting his education at Phillips University, Marburg an der Lahn, Germany. In Korea he earned the Combat Infantry Badge as a combat correspondent and later served as acting X Corps (Group) information officer under Lieutenant General White. On his release from active duty in 1953, Mr. Griffin was appointed Chief of the Publications Division of the U.S. Army Signal Aviation Test & Support Activity at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Mr. Griffin is a member of the Special Operations Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Army Aviation Association, and the Armor Association. He was the 1991 recipient of the Brigadier General Robert L. Dening Memorial Distinguished Service Award of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, and the August 1999 recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars News Media Award, presented at the 100th National Convention in Kansas City. He has been vested into the Order of St. George of the U.S. Armor Association, and the Order of St. Andrew of the U.S. Army Aviation Association, and been awarded Honorary Doctoral degrees by Norwich University, the nation's first and oldest private military college, and by Troy State University (Ala.). He was the graduation dinner speaker for the class of 1988 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He has been awarded honorary membership in the Special Forces Association; the Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association; the Marine Raiders Association; and the U.S. Army Otter & Caribou Association. He is the co-founder, with historian Colonel Carlo D'Este, of the William E. Colby Seminar on Intelligence, Military, and Diplomatic Affairs. Mr. Griffin's novels, known for their historical accuracy, have been praised by The Philadelphia Inquirer for their "fierce, stop-for-nothing scenes." "Nothing honors me more than a serviceman, veteran, or cop telling me he enjoys reading my books," Mr. Griffin says. Mr. Griffin divides his time between the Gulf Coast and Buenos Aires.

Just another fantastic piece of writing by Mr. Butterworth. As always he brings out the characters, the setting, everything into such vivid perspective.
The description and transitions from one scene to the next is remarkable. This is another great tale of Detective Matt Payne and Inspector Peter Wohl. If you haven't enjoyed this series, by all means start at the beginning. Every book in the series is action packed, showing the successes as well as the pitfalls of police work. WEB must have spent a heck of a lot of time researching Philadelphia police work in order to visualize and write with such reality. Granted sometimes the book seems to stretch things a little, but from a retired police officer, I can tell you these sort of things happen virtually exactly as written. At times it is hard to believe that the characters in this book (and series) could or would do some of the crazy and dangerous scenes as described. But, they do and that is what makes police life so exciting and reading about forces you to keep the pages turning.

Good, entertaining read! The Philadelphia police saga continues in good form.

Well one thing is clear, Matt, our hero, or at least one of them, has some real psychological problems. He seems to be attracted to women who have real problems. In the last few books it was a druggie, who overdosed and saved good old Matt from himself, and in this book it was a felon who was certainly guilty of aiding and abetting the crimes of bank robbery and multiple murders. Young Matt is so driven by his love (or lust) for Susan that he commits a couple of felonies himself to try to cover up her crimes and save her from herself. I'm not that convinced that the story line is all that believable, but Griffin does spin a good yarn and makes the outlandish plot entertaining. Griffin saves good ole Matt again by getting the girl taken out of the picture at the end of the book. That let's Matt escape the consequences of his actions (crimes actually) and he becomes a hero, of sorts. On to the next book and whatever Griffin has in store for Matt and his galloping libido.

Have read and listened to 6 now and I love his writing style and the characters he creates! I’ve been an avid reader of a wide variety of genre and he’s become my favorite author for a relaxing evening with a glass of wine.

I discovered W.E.B. Griffin in the eighties after a four year stint in the Middle East and eleven years Active Duty in the Army. I would find out when the next release of a Griffin book was due and as soon as I got off work, I would get to the bookstore, buy the book, and I would finish reading it before work the next day. That ment I would get little or no sleep, but it was worth it.

I have now obtained Griffins books on Kindle so I don't have to store all the hardcover and paperbacks. You can read any one of Griffins books as a stand alone, but why would you? Each Griffin sries will give you day's and week's of pleasure, (over and over again for me).

I love W,E.B. Griffin and the many books I have read by him but I had forgotten how slow the pace is in the Badge of Honor series. For every book he spends 50 - 70% reviewing all the characters and their relationships with each other. This I find a lot boring especially if you have read one of his stories before.I love the Matt Payne character but he could be doing so much more to enhance the series.

The whole series needs to be faster paced, more suspenseful, with more surprises. There are just too many characters and cops involved, get to the story!!!!!

Griffin is a great storyteller. His different series make you feel as if you are there and as if you actually know the cities and countries where his stories take place. Great characters, great action, great books.
