Product Description

Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant is a general-purpose, black RTV indoor/outdoor sealant. Effectively bonds, repairs, seals, mends and secures glass, metal, plastics, fabric, vinyl, weather stripping and vinyl tops. Also protects and repairs electrical wiring and may be applied to horizontal or vertical surfaces. Waterproof and flexible with a temperature range of -75 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, this sealant is oil, water, weather, vibration and grease resistant. Suggested applications include windshields, door frames, electrical connections, seams and roofs, vinyl tops, and weather stripping.

Black rtv is just a good all around silicone.I have been using black for years with good results where oil or water is involved.Ultra black and ultra gray are better for high pressure and red and copper are best for high heat. This is the same rtv that comes in some fel-pro gasket sets, just in a very small tube.

I use it mainly to weather proof electronic devices on electric bikes I'm building (ebikessf.com), especially to seal around electric cables where they come out of enclosures. This stuff is very sticky - bonds to almost any surface, flexible - doesn't easily crack, doesn't conduct electricity - I use it on circuit boards. However it is toxic, use it in well ventilated areas, wearing respirator is a good idea, definitely wear cloves, this stuff gets under the skin and is really hard to wash off.

These small tubes are really hard to use because the visocsity is so high it's hard to get the adhesive out by hand pressure. Impossible when usign the clear plastic nozzle. Alot is wasted. I bought the smaller tubes thinking I could get them into my confined space, but in reality I had to put some on my finger then apply. I could have just bought a larger tube that fits in a caulk gun.
