My daughter lost her SD card reader for her Macbook so I picked up one of these to try out.I tested it on Windows where it was transferring files at just shy of 40 MB/sec. This is a bit slower than when I use the SD card reader built in my laptop which reads the same file at about 110 MB/sec. This having been said, I have to use a SD adapter where this device natively supports 5 different cards types.We'll keep it on hand, but there may be more performant options available.

I got this mainly so that I could use it to review photos from my camera, select those I want to upload to my picture frame & then upload them on the frame.

I have a camera, which came with a card reader, but it is not always available. This has been very handy for uploading pictures from my files that I'd like to use on my picture frame & because it's right by the computer where I need it, it's easier to frequently change the photos so we always have a fresh set of pictures to watch.

What's really nice is that this accepts different memory cards, so whether you've got full sized cards, the mini cards or other memory cards that it accepts, it has you covered for five different types of cards.

The Good: Decently good write speed using a U1 SD card. Using this unit provided around 32MB/s of write speed. The same card in my internal card reader only got around 45MB/s, in testing, so reasonably close. Lots of card options, so you'll never be without a proper reader. Allows you to use SD cards both with and without a full-size adaptor. Works out-of-the-box on a Mac Studio, and probably others. Just plug and go!

The Bad: Read speed on the card I tested with was only so-so compared to using the internal card reader on the same machine. As a comparison, using this reader with the U1 card gave me around 35 MB/s read speeds, while the same card in the built-in card reader got as high as 90MB/s read speeds.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with this device. Both read and write performance were solid (the blackmagic said they were sufficient for reading and writing 8K DCI at 60 FPS in H.265 format), and it simply worked. If you need a card reader, and you have a variety of different card types you work with, this will do the job just fine. It may not be quite as snappy as a built-in card reader, but then if you have a built-in reader for the card(s) you use, you probably don't need this device anyway! :-)

Like this one because it doesn't have all the extra ports and like video ports which drain battery and mirror display whether or not you have a display plugged in. compact and allows me to use an older camera I picked up that uses CF.

The product didn't work for what I wanted it to do, probably my fault for not reading the description more clearly. However, I will say that the SD card port doesn't seem to accept the card correctly. Other readers that I have you can feel the card push into place with this reader you cannot.

This was a pleasant surprise. I was able to transfer data very quickly to a 64GB microSD card and it had no issues when connected to computer or android. I was also able to duplicate that same large amount of test data from that card, to the same card very quickly. So this seems like a good choice for those who don't want to waste time getting things done. Overall, I like it and will continue to use it for my work.

I use this on a Mac Book air that I travel with. I like that small slim design as it takes very little room in backpack yet allows me to transfer photos from my camera to my laptop quickly and with ease. No batteries needed or software, just plug it in and your ready to use.

This card reader for the iPad is very handy especially since I am using it to work and transfer data across many different platforms where old school technology is mixed with new. The only thing I don’t love about it is how short the cord is, but since it is very lightweight, it doesn’t seem to stress out the iPad connection port. I would prefer it to not hang off of it though since my iPad isn’t laying flat on the table while using it. It also doesn’t have any kind of indication light that it’s being read, but that’s okay. It works fine and has several types of card sizes that it can read. I would just love a longer cord though so it can lay flat on a table because it’s unclear which way is right side up with this device while hanging off the side.
