I had another brand that was almost identical but the case got flexy, and some keys got intermittent, and finally the cord got a break in it. This one is definitely made better. I like the size, not to big to store, not too small to see the keys. Laptop users will probably master it faster than us PC folk .
My only real gripe is that the touchpad has special behaviors when you tap and drag that are ALMOST intuitive. For instance when an item like a scroll bar is selected, you have to count 1,2,3 elephants so that it will deselect and then you can carry on.
I REALLY WISH it came with instructions on to clarify the touchpad features.
It should be noted that there is no 10 key pad or lights. Not a biggie for me. But, it should also be mentioned that the compactness can throw you off a little even if you type well by touch. Also, a function button activate the number keys and blue coded keys that can be struck by mistake, watch out.
Updated - I just replaced this with an identical item. The one I bought several years ago, I have dropped it, sat on it, typed and used the touchpad with my greasy fingers. My dog has even chewed on it. It is surprisingly well made. I finally dropped it enough that two of the keys would not reattach. Nice quality and durability.
I DO WISH it had some media control. Like a Play and Volume Control. Otherwise it is THE way to control my HTPC.
I use this keyboard on my FPGA CoCo III+ and it works well.
This keyboard's compact size save me room on my vintage computer desk as well, leaving room for a few vintage computers and a vintage game console.
Keys have a good confident feel. Touchpad is responsive. Main downer is the cord is too short; about 30 inches.
By way of comparison, I've had for about three years a USB keyboard with small trackball. Worked great for for controlling the laptop with feet up on the desk. This was a short-format, like the present item - numeric key set in the right side of the qwerty key set, activated by the num-lock key. Never did learn to use it well, just left the num-lock off and used the dedicated number key row.
Main problem was the non-removeable mini-track-ball picking up water or (worse) grease. Best avoid eating while computing with that one. French fries an absolute no-no.
A few months ago, got an inexpensive wireless keyboard with touchpad. Not Blue Tooth; came with a dedicated USB dong-let for the computer. A little too inexpensive. Sometimes the first keystroke gets lost while the thing wakes up. Arrow keys are really squirley - jump up or down ten lines of text, shut down the browser, whatever.
So. This time we go for USB, not wireless. Touchpad, not trackball. Pay a little more for better quality. Would be nice if this keyboard were lighter, but we wanted sturdy, so... Just wish they had put a longer cord on it. Needs a USB extension cable to reach the Compute Stick behind the TV, or even lean back from the lap-top.
