This book was recommended by our music theory university lecturer. However, this version is different from the one we have at university. I think this version must be a newer edition. This edition talks about memorising rhythm words, but it does not provide a single example of what a "rhythm word" is. After transcribing nursery rhymes I was led to believe that "rhythm words" were the words in nursery rhymes / folk songs with a certain rhythm pattern like "lit-tle", Ma-ry" and "the world" for example. However, in the previous edition of the book, the author treats "rhythm words" as the usual "1 e + a" type counting. I would have preferred the previous edition with its examples of how best to count more complex rhythms. I found it really frustrating to convert to a new technique only to realise that is not what the author meant by "rhythm words" and then to change back to "1 e + a" once I saw how it was explained in the previous edition. I have only looked at chapters 1 and 2 so far, so I'm not sure if the rest of the book is like this.
