There are a lot of USB audio devices out there but this one supports a lot more features including S/PDIF in and out. With S/PDIF there isn't much concern about the quality of the DACs in the device and you can add USB support for receivers or higher quality external DACs that don't have USB support.The sound card is made of plastic with a soft-touch finish which makes it feel more like a premium device, though the downside of such a finish is it's not durable. Volume control buttons on top of the case will send volume up/down commands to the OS; there's no built-in volume control otherwise. The package includes a USB cable, S/PDIF cable, and drivers on a 500MB flash drive and mini CD.This is a standard C-Media device and the drivers come from C-Media. Unfortunately this makes the device not so plug-and-play; you can play 2-channel analog sound without it but the driver must be installed for the S/PDIF port to light up and play audio.

Does not work in windows 11, 10, 7.

I replaced the drivers, tried comparability modes, 5 different PCs. Nothing worked.

I could get sound, but as others have stated. They could only get 2.1 sound out of it.

Configuring the software, (test mode where it plays sound through each speaker) The voice would be different with the R and L front but the rest was the same. Meaning when each other speakers should only play sound; It all comes through the front R and L speakers.

example test should say "Right front speaker, Left front speaker" these two were correct. The rest like Left rear speaker, Right rear speaker and so on would only play through the front two speakers. The center and the sub were the same as well.

I made sure that each speaker worked individually.
There is something wrong with the digital to analog decryption of this unit.

DO NOT BUY! unless you have an old system still using 32 bit OS

I know it says its compatible. No way I could find searching Google and YouTube.

This works on Ubuntu. No special drivers were necessary, just plug it in. Specifically, it worked on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, plugged into an old USB 2.0 port. In Ubuntu settings, the device appears as "CM106 Like Sound Device" using the "Analog Surround 7.1 Output" configuration. I've tested it with a full set of 7.1 speakers and they all work as expected. The software that accompanies the device was not needed. The sound quality is better than what is built into my 2015-era motherboard.

However, like with many sound cards, the subwoofer and center speakers were switched. This happens on both Windows and Linux. You do not need to buy a physical adapter to fix it. A small edit to a text file and a reboot fixes it. Do an internet search on these terms to find the instructions on multiple websites: "pulseaudio alsa mixer default.conf subwoofer not working Linux switch".
