Purchase options and add-ons

This is the first in-depth historical study of Comanche social and political groups. Using the ethnohistorical method, Thomas W. Kavanagh traces the changes and continuities in Comanche politics from their earliest interactions with Europeans to their settlement on a reservation in present-day Oklahoma.

Love this book so far, and it came in great condition.

For a class I'm preparing on High Plains history, I needed an additional reference for the Comanche who were lords of the Llano Estacado for almost 200 years. I found not one, but three, references on Amazon, available at a great price if I bought all three in a package, which I did, and they were delivered, two working days later. I continue to be astounded, and grateful in this particular case, because the information I received added so much more to the course!

This book commands the reader's full attention. Firstly because the sheer volume of scholarly detail in this treasure trove of facts, but more because of the intelligent view taken of it and the links Dr Tom makes between events on the ground and social/political patterns in the history of an exceptional people.

Very, very well researched. A lot of information that I have not read in other Comanche books, especially 18th century information. However, it reads as if he is writing a dissertation trying to impress some ivy leaguers. Kavanagh also appears to go out of his way to thoroughly explain all of the white man's foibles, yet seems to always have some kind of disclaimer for the Comanches behavior - a little revisionistic. All in all - a very good(dry) book.
