This is literally plug in and play. Works immediately. No clicking, no websites, no drivers, no downloads, etc. Responds appropriately to volume control key commands and plays in stereo (left and right both play). When plugged in, the original headphone port automatically becomes disabled.
Sound quality is equal to the original audio port (in terms of bass, treble, crispness, etc) but is not quite as loud. I'd estimate this plays at 90% of the volume as the original sound card/audio port. Overall satisfied. $12 device is a great alternative to paying for computer repair.

I purchased this item again in a different color. I am happy to report that the sound quality has improved from good to GREAT. Full spectrum of bass, treble, crispness, clarity, etc. Additionally, what was previously 90% of the volume compared to the original audio port is now 110% of the volume compared to the original audio port. This item is durable and reliably works well. The adapter I bought almost 1 year ago still works as good as the 1st day I used it. New adapter, even better.
