I recently purchased a Winix 5500-2. When I opened it I saw the tiny amount of carbon pellets in the filter stack and realized it would not be doing much for odors or VOCs. The nicer Air Purifiers (Austin Air) have carbon filters that look exactly like these inline filters so I decided to try one of these and see if I can have two specialized air purifiers for half the price of a premium combo unit.

These types are obviously made for a specific purpose and therefore not as whisper quiet as the Winix 5500-2. The fan settings are MUCH better though. This has levels the are evenly spaced in watts and noise going from ~10 watts to about 55 watts. The Winix 5500-2 has 4 levels with the first three being under 11 watts and the 4th being 55 watts.

This particular model did not include a particulate pre filter and AC Infinity does. You need that to keep the carbon dust free and have maximum contact with the gases it removes.
