From Booklist
Girls covers the physical and emotional changes that puberty brings, along with solid tips about grooming, diet, exercise, and other health issues, such as eating disorders. The cartoon drawings of stylish teens resemble wide-eyed dolls and grate somewhat against repeated messages about self-esteem and embracing imperfections. Still, the clear text communicates concepts clearly: "hormones are chemicals that control many activities in your body, including growth," and girls will find plenty of useful information.
Like the companion volume Boy's Guide to Becoming a Teen (2006), by the same author, this closes with an extensive resource section, including hotlines. Gillian Engberg

I also purchased the "American Medical Association Boy's Guide to becoming a Teen" for my grandson in Cincinnati, Ohio, and his mom was just as pleased with that book as I am with the girls' guide!
Thank you and THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH again for such a great book.
P.S. THIS book needs to be in ALL 6th, 7th & 8th grade health programs at all middle schools! That is just my opinion!! (smile)
I loved that they included things like how most photos you see online are fake, love yourself and your own body, and don’t let anyone pressure you in to something you don’t want to do. There are also very informative, simple anatomy illustrations of breasts and female genitalia. There are a few pages about sex - and each parent should decide if their child is mature enough for the levels of sexual education that are discussed. I personally think the topics covered are important, and are discussed delicately and inoffensively, but each parent has to decide for themselves. I have included photos of a few of the pages for examples - there is a passing mention of the definitions of oral and anal sex.
