    I bought this device to replace my 9700 Bold which was giving a lot of trouble. The device worked beautifully out of the box BUT I also own a BlackBerry Playbook and to date I cannot get this device to bridge with my PlayBook to enable me to read my emails on my PlayBook. I was told that AT&T which is branded into this device has blocked the ability to Bridge with the PlayBook. I am so frustrated and disappointed with this device. Additionally if the native browser is opened the device overheats and the battery drains.

    I bought this phone for my Dad as gift,so that we can stay in touch with BBM. So when he called, I thought he was going to be so excited about the surprise I got for him, so Imagine how disappointed I was to hear him say that the phone looks like it have been used and has been dropped because it had huge digs and marks on the keyboard as well as the tackle box looks like it been used for a while, and the description of the phone says NEW!!!! but this phone has clearly been used!

    I am totally disappointed and this is the 3rd unpleasant incident with ordering items on Amazon, I feel like I fail my Dad!

Then I let it rest for a while and reinserted battery and it worked. The four star instead of five is that it freezes a lot but not for long. Also, other users have complained of this. This is a bb problem not the customer.

    This device has the continental keyboard layout of QWERTZ on the top row, not the normal UK QWERTY one. Currency symbol is also the €, not the normal $. At the very least, this should have been mentioned in the specification.
    Prime Delivery also took 2 days, not normal one. Suspect this was shipped from the continent. Guess what, it's getting returned there now!

    Vorweggenommen: Ich hatte schon verdammt viele Handys...sei es, weil ich ein Technikenthusiast bin oder weil bislang kein Gerät meine, nicht ganz einfachen, Ansprüche vollends erfüllen konnte. Selten war ich länger als 6 Monate im Besitz eines Mobiltelefons. Meine letzten beiden, das iPhone 4S und Blackberry Bold 9900, möchte ich hier kurz miteinander vergleichen.

    Viele werden aufschreien, ein Blackberry nicht mit einem iPhone vergleichen zu können. Zielgruppe und Betriebssystem (OS) sind vollkommen verschieden. Das mag in gewisser Hinsicht auch zutreffen, doch versuche ich anhand der Dinge, auf die ich persönlich am meisten Wert lege, bei dieser Rezension bei beiden Konzepten die Ähnlichkeiten und Differenzen zu vergleichen.

    # Tastatur #
    Der hauptsächliche Grund für meinen Wechsel: Ich bin auf Dauer kein Freund von ausschließlicher Touchscreenbedienung. Zwar ist Apple hierbei meiner Ansicht nach immernoch Marktführer (die virtuellen Tastaturen von Samsung Galaxy und HTC finde ich gruselig), aber eine virtuelle Tastatur kann nie eine mechanische ersetzen. Demzufolge tippt es sich auf keinem Gerät so schnell, wie auf einem Blackberry. Besonders anzuführen ist hier mein neues Bold 9900 mit der bislang größten Blackberry-Tastatur.

    Gewinner dieser Kategorie: Eindeutig das Blackberry aufgrund der perfekten Tastatur.

    # Kalender #
    Was Office und Rumtippen angeht, ist Blackberry dem iPhone weit überlegen. Mails kommen sofort und machen sich nur diskret durch die LED bemerkbar...wenn ich Zeit habe, dann lese ich die Mail und wenn nicht dann eben nicht. So verhält es sich auch mit allen anderen Nachrichten, die ich mir zusammen oder getrennt von den E-Mails anschauen kann. Die Konversationen werden dabei entweder gebündelt als Dialog oder streng chronologisch sortiert angezeigt. Einfach mal eben eine Kurznachricht (ob ber Mail, SMS, BBM oder Whatsapp) versenden ist absolut unkompliziert und macht sogar Spaß. Auch der Kalender ist kinderleicht zu bedienen. Termine verwalten, erstellen oder löschen funktioniert intuitiv und auf schnellem Weg. Der Kalender bietet verschiedenste Ansichten und ist für die private und berufliche Planung einfach super - mein persönlicher Assistent quasi.

    Gewinner dieser Kategorie: Eindeutig das Blackberry, keiner kann Office so gut.

    # Internet #
    Internetseiten öffnen sich mindestens so schnell wie beim iPhone, obgleich die Darstellung teilweise recht "hölzern" wirkt und nicht so schön an das Display angepasst wird wie beim iPhone. Hier hat der Apfel die Nase vorn. Jede Internetseite wirkt, als wäre sie eigens für Apple's Safari gescripted und passt sich perfekt an die Darstellungsmöglichkeiten desn 3,5" Displays an.

    Das iPhone ist eine "Multimedia-Maschine" zum ständigen Onlinekontakt mit Leuten aus aller Welt. Das macht sich dann widerum auch beim Datenvolumen bemerkbar. Kein anderes Handy hat mich bislang so früh in die monatliche Geschwindigkeitsdrosselung geführt. Da hat RIM wieder den Vorteil auf seiner Seite. Die Datenpäckchen werden komprimiert und Stück für Stück ans Blacky gesendet...das schont das Datenvolumen erheblich.

    Auch Facebook und Twitter (beide von mir oft und gern genutzt) sind einfach perfekt in Apple's OS eingebunden und wirken wie aus einem Guss. Bei Blackberry merkt man dagegen schnell, dass es sich um separat auf dem Betriebssystem installierte Anwendunge handelt. Sie sind nicht so schön integriert. Andererseits spart der geneigte User auch hier deutlich an Datenvolumen, da alles schön komprimiert wird.

    Der Gewinner: Ein eindeutiges Unentschieden. Apple's Darstellung ist besser, aber das Blackberry schont die Flatrate.

    # Multimedia #
    Hier macht dem iPhone keiner was vor. Der Musikplayer ist genial was Bedienung und Darstellung angeht. Keine überfrachteten Menüs und eine intuitive Suche nach dem gewünschten Song sind Apple wirklich gelungen. Die Soundqualität des Players ist meiner Meinung nach ebenso unerreicht. Im iPhone steckt nunmal auch der iPod drin, sodass das iPhone hier meiner Meinung nach schon fast als Referenz genommen werden kann. Die Anbindung an den iTunes-Store ist ebenso einfach wie genial. Die gewünschte Musik ist in Sekundenschnelle (bei mir nur per W-LAN geladen) auf dem iPhone und das Hörvergnügen kann beginnen.

    Auch die Kamera des iPhones ist eine der besten Handykameras, die ich je benutzt habe. Sie liefert gestochen scharfe Bilder und gleichzeitig hervorragende Farbwiedergabe, auch bei recht dunkler Umgebung (z.B. Circus oder Kathedrale). Ja die Kamera ist wahrlich ein absolutes Highlight am iPhone und besser als manch kompakte Digitalkamera.

    Hierzu gehörig ist natürlich auch das Programm zum bearbeiten der Fotos absolut intuitiv und simpel. Egal ob kopieren, verschieben, umbenennen oder Diashow...mit dem iPhone entsteht zu keiner Zeit ein unübersichtliches Bilder-wirr-warr.

    Im Vergleich Blackberry? - Nunja...die Kamera ist brauchbar und ganz okay für Schnappschüsse, meine Urlaubserinnerungen möchte ich mangels Qualität damit aber nicht festhalen. Dem iPhone hätte ich soetwas zugetraut. Auch die Verwaltung der Bilder und das verschieben und kopieren in Dateiordner ist alles ein Stück komplizierter bzw. umwegiger als beim iPhone. Das Blackberry ist in dieser Disziplin nicht schlecht, kommt an das iPhone jedoch keinesfalls heran.

    Der Musikplayer im Blackberry ist recht ordentlich und mit den passenden Kopfhörern sogar von guter Klangqualität. Auch auf dem Blacky kann ich Musik genussvoll hören und genießen. Dennoch ist auch hier die Bedienung ein kleines Stück komplizierter als beim iPhone.

    Der Gewinner: Ganz klar das iPhone. Mehr Multimedia als mit dem 4S gibt's derzeit auf keinem Handy.

    # Sonstiges #
    Die wichtigsten Punkte sind bereits abgehandelt, bleibt noch das Sonstige. - Beim Akku nehmen sich beide Geräte nicht viel, 2 Tage Laufzeit bei durchschnittlicher Nutzung sind bei beiden Geräten machbar und meiner Meinung auch in Ordnung. Man kann beim derzeitigen Stand der Technik keine längeren Akkulaufzeiten erwarten. Wer mehr Akku haben möchte, muss schlicht und einfach zu älteren Geräte ohne entsprechenden Funktionsumfang greifen.

    Der Touchscreen beider Geräte ist kapazitiv zu bedienen und schnell in der Reaktionszeit und Treffgenauigkeit. Beim Blackberry wird der Touchscreen (neben der Tastatur) noch durch ein Trackpad ergänzt. Auch hier sind beide Geräte gleichauf und reagieren schnell und flüssig auf die jeweiligen Eingaben.

    Beide Geräte sind definitiv stylisch. Das iPhone wegen seiner enormen Bekanntheit und das Blacky wegen seiner Vearbeitung und seines Businesslooks. Metall und Glas ist sowohl am iPhone als auch am Blackberry ausreichend verbaut und schmeichelt Hand und Auge mit der Materialqualität.

    Welches Gerät ist jetzt besser? - Eindeutig keins! Beide Geräte haben ihre Stärken und Schwächen, weil sie sich - wie eingangs erwähnt - vollkommen anderen Zielgruppen erschließen wollen. Der pottentielle Käufer muss sich daher zunächst entscheiden, was er möchte bzw. was ihm wichtiger ist:

    - vollständige QWERTZ-Tastatur, perfekter Kalender und Kontaktverwaltung, simples und schnelles Messaging: Hol dir den Bold 9900, der derzeit definitiv beste Blackberry

    - Multimedia, sprich Kamera, Musik, eingebundenes Facebook usw. sind das Hauptaugenmerk: Nimm dir das iPhone, mehr Multimedia kann man sonst nirgends bekommen

    Und welches Handy erfüllt meine Ansprüche derzeit am besten? Eigentlich keines so richtig. Das Blackberry bietet mir zu wenig Multimedia und beim iPhone fehlt mir die Tastatur und der Kalender. Eine Mischung aus beidem wäre wohn genial, wobei auch daran sicherlich genug auszusetzen wäre ;-)

    Ease of operation, unparalleled security, basic/easy navigation, however I only started to use this device 2 months after I purchased it, as I was waiting for my previous model to finally die. This one seemed almost brand new, all features worked well, however days later I noticed the cursor travels all the way to the bottom regardless of being commanded up via the track pad, and enters commands at the bottom of the page, for example spontaneously changing the language on Facebook's bottom page. This flaw oddly happens on the internet only. Too late for a return, oh well.
