After struggling with an older mandolin for years...and dealing with that dangerous, exposed blade, I had to find something better. The Supmakin Safe Mandolin Slicer fits the need. I use it for chopping all kinds of vegetables for stir-fry, snacks and salads. It works so well I find myself using it more frequently for so many veggies.
It's easy to assemble and very east to clean thoroughly.
I will admit, however, it took about 20 minutes of reading the instructions and test-cutting various vegetables to fully understand all of its features and abilities. The knob for setting thickness...and the two smaller knobs for setting the width for fries or veggie sticks took a little experimenting. It sliced carrots with ease and I didn't have to force anything through the chute. It works great.
As for cleaning, when the chute is removed, the blade is exposed, but not to the point of inflicting a finger cut. Common sense will tell you to keep your fingers away...although it is MUCH safer than a standard mandolin. I'm glad they included a cleaning tool which worked perfectly for cleaning the slicing slot. Highly recommended.

This makes chopping matchstick vegetables a breeze. If you're making a recipe that requires a large amount of chopped or sliced veg this will save you a lot of time.
Assembly is fast, however cleaning is a task. Especially when cleaning carrot stains. The small brush helps a great deal so don't forget to use it. For this reason we only bring it out when there is a lot of chopping to do especially thin or matchstick slices. We've ordered another one and gifted to a chef who loved it and made a video. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to save time. Its also much safer for kids in place of a knife.

The mandolin works great (even recommended to a friend who cut her finger on a traditional mandolin).
It's easy to use and quick.

My only issue is cleanup. It has a lot of hard to access areas that difficult to get small bits of the produce out of. Things with skins like peppers or tomatoes are especially an issue. It comes with a little cleaning tool and you better not lose that because you will never get into those hard to access areas without it.

I would have given 5 stars except for the cleaning challenges.

The french fry cutter makes thin fries that we do not like so we have not used it. They should make a larger model in case you want to slice a tomato for your sandwich or maybe slice a potato without first cutting it in half or quarters to fit into the tiny chute. The purpose of buying a slicer is so you don't have to pre-slice what you're going to slice before you slice. You buy this and you still have to buy another kind to slice a normal sized tomato or potato. Good for small items like cucumber, celery, etc., but useless if you have anything over 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Over priced considering it's limited ability.
