Got one of those cheap "mandoline" type multi cutters, but the blade was too narrow, and I found it difficult to slice up any onion which wasn't small, to say nothing of a decent sized hunk of cabbage, so even though this was 3 times more expensive, and the Jumbo version only has the straight blade, I figured I'd give it a try. Got it today and sliced up a roma tomato really thinly, and then did some cabbage, all seems great.This seems like a really old school Japanese company that doesn't cater all the much to the western market for customer service/informational purposes, so, for anyone else looking for size/width particulars, the Jumbo is 12.5 inches in length and 6.5 inches wide, the blade itself is 5 inches wide and can handle pretty much any size tomato, or potato there is.Attaching photo with a cheap useless "mandoline" multi slicer next to it for comparison. The multi slicer's blade is 3.25 inches wide, which might not seem like a big difference, but it is.

I purchased this Benriner mandolin on Wirecutter's recommendation, replacing an OXO mandolin that was more gadget than slicer. For those looking for the model recommended by Wirecutter, this is the genuine article. It is packaged for the Japan market, but it is exactly the one they recommend.

Needless to say, it slices like a dream, and the three cross-cut gates included are ingenious and simple to use. It is easy to take apart, throw in the dishwasher, and then reassemble. It's nothing at all like the crazy design of the OXO mandolin that, for the sake of storing all its attachments on board, required that they all be taken off, some hand-washed, and then required a look at the manual to figure out how they all went back together. (Notice the past tense there.)

The included finger guard is entirely inadequate. As this is a pro-grade tool, I imagine they put no time or thought into something that they figured kitchen helpers would not use. I purchased a separate mandolin finger guard on Amazon for under eight dollars—the kind with metal spikes that hold what you're slicing, and a rounded palm rest that keeps your precious digits out of the blade's reach. I highly recommend you do the same.

I purchased this brand after reading reviews and I can honestly say I am more than impressed by the quality and design of this product. I did purchase cut proof gloves (thankfully) to use with the mandolin and have been grateful for them. It is wonderfully sharp and easily adjusted.

This mandolin is for slicing only and not for cutting matchstick potatoes or anything like that. What is does do is cut beautifully and fit perfectly on the side of my pots or bowls so that the slices fall directly into the bowl. I would certainly purchase this product again.

If you are looking for a mandolin slicer, I cannot recommend this enough. I love that the blade easily detaches for cleaning, and most importantly, sharpening. So many mandolins have fixed blades that are impossible to sharpen once they dull! I have owned this for about two years and expect to continue using it for decades to come.

I love this and wholeheartedly give it five stars, but I do have a few nitpicks:
- the cutting deck flexes a bit under pressure, which can occasionally lead to slightly irregular cuts
- it comes with a julienne attachment, but I found this to not work very well. I tried it twice and haven't looked back. Maybe if I used it on softer food instead of carrots and potatoes, the cuts would have turned out better.

Works well for what is intended. I've had mine for a couple months, and it sees regular use. The med attachment works great, it's the one I use the most. Makes good julienne cuts, and dice onion in a flash. I don't know if it can do everything the pictures suggest it can, but I've been loving mine so far. The only thing that's kind of annoying is the guard does seat as well as I'd like. But I use my hand till the end anyway do not a big deal.
