For context, I have handled a wide range of Asian blades ranging from over $10K down to $50, so I am very picky. In particular, I specialize in Chinese blades.
This blade, while being on the cheaper end of the scale, was still outclassed by some sub-$100 blades that I have handled; for example, I was handling a $60 katana the same night, and that blade seemed to have better steel quality than this blade. In particular, I am very skeptical of the claim of heat tempering for the blade for two reasons:
1) The blade arrived bent at the tip (see picture). The fact that the tip bent like that makes me seriously question the tempering. That part of the blade should be rock hard to be able to be sharpened for cutting, with the back spine being softer to take the shock; that would lead more likely to the tip not bending and/or snapping off in really extreme cases. The bend implies the edge is soft, hence bad temper. While it has an edge, it is not really sharp, and definitely not razer sharp; I was able to run it along my palm without much issue, which is a far cry from even my $50 dao which gives me cuts left and right if I am not careful when I clean it.
2) The spine of the blade has this blackened texture to it (see picture). I guess this is supposed to mimic a fake hamon or sanmei, or be some sort of stylistic element. To get that texture though, most likely the blade was heated then stamped, not hand shaped. This is the second cheap blade that I have seen with this fake texture to simulate something, not sure what, that I have never seen on a true, serious martial arts blade.
In addition to the two huge problems mentioned above, the rest of the sword unfortunately does not scream classy to me. The wrap on the sheath and handle looks and feels cheap, like tennis racket vinyl wrap, instead of leather. All of the fittings from the pommel to the guard are clearly mass produced stamped items instead of forged or properly bronze molded and made even worse by some sort of matte black paint or maybe some sort of powdered paint process. The guard is way too tight on the sheath too, requiring wrenching to open.
Basically, this sword is just a prop. It is good for cosplay or maybe to display if you want some sort of stylish Tang-style Chinese sword for some reason. I would not recommend it at all to anyone serious about martial arts and serious about collecting real swords. It is 3x the price of two of my mass-produced Chinese dao swords and 2x less of a sword in my opinion.
