Just traveled out of the country with this bag. It was useful for my personal item as it had lots of pockets to keep things organized. The only thing that I wish it had was a hip strap to take pressure off my shoulders. I did not pack it to its fullest since I also brought a carry on with me which i checked for international travel and put overhead on domestic flights.

I ordered this and the Vera lay flat backpack to compare. Empty, the lay flat backpack is heavier, so when full it will be even heavier. The Vera cotton travel backpack is much lighter. I like the material on both. One is soft and washable and the other is easy to wipe off. In size, though the lay flat is a tad bigger in dimension, it fits less. The top left side of the lay flat gets narrower and is a little deceiving when first looking at it. It’s easier to get what you need in the Vera large travel backpack and I like the many pockets. It’s padded nicely for a laptop as well. The Vera lay flat backpack is water repellent, only plus. If you travel a lot in winter where it rains/snows, then that would be a deal breaker. But I live in California and it hardly rains here. Not so important to me. On the Vera large cotton travel backpack, it’s easier to open and grab something or put something in, in a rush. Especially at the airport. It’s just more convenient all around for use and when traveling. Both backpacks don’t hold a weeks worth. Maybe for a nice 3 day weekend, short trips. Unless you use packing cubes, then it might help to fit more. With jeans, definitely not much will fit. If you wear leggings or sun dresses, you can fit about 6-7 outfits and room for toiletries. So comparing both, the winner for me is this backpack, the Vera Bradley Large Cotton Travel Backpack! Oh, and I love the pattern and the material is sturdy and well made. I hope my review helps.

Let me start off by saying I’m not a small woman so my clothing (size 16) is not ity bitty. I packed this bag for a weekend in cooler weather and had so much room. I packed jeans, joggers, flannel pajamas, a jacket, 2 long sleeve shirts, my undergarments and my toiletry bag in the main pocket. I packet my electronics; kindle, headphones, and chargers in the front pocket. I did not touch the expansion zipper at all. I had the laptop pocket and the smaller organizer pocket completely empty. The only thing that I don’t like about this bag upon fist look is that the expansion zipper is on the bottom of the bag. I plan on taking the Vera Bradley tag off of the zipper so that it doesn’t get caught on anything while traveling. I am curious to see how much clothing I will be able to pack in it.
