Editorial Reviews

Pulp's 1987 album Freaks is being reissued as part of the Fire Embers series with a special 2 LP release. Packed with singles and b-sides from the Freaks era the album documents how Pulp had changed significantly since their debut It. By this time every member bar Jarvis had moved on but the addition of Russell Senior proved to be a pivotal turning point for the band. No longer did Pulp sound pastoral, easy-natured; now they were darkly romantic, brooding, noisy and a little bit Gothic. Pulp were out-of-tune with the times: but the times didn't satisfy Pulp.

Agreed, very raw and gritty. Beautiful in its own way.

You cannot be Pulp fan and not have this record. It's one of their early albums, it's a little raw and it's absolutely brilliant. It's not as pop as Different class, it's darker, it's not so dance, but if you like Pulp of 90s you'll love this one as well.

JESUS CHRIST!
I loved Pulp..... And then I found this...

Just buy it. Some of the deepest, darkest, yet funniest and emotive lyrics to ever be played in my car... And I play A LOT of Morrissey.

Ähnlich beeindruckt bin ich von "Being Followed Home", "Don't You Know", "They Suffocate at Night", "There's No Emotion", "Blue Glow", "97 Lovers". Freaks eben.

Good range of songs and tell tale sexy lyrics. The band are coming together and are not far off the masterpieces yet to come. Jarvis style is great and the packaging brings the whole thing together.
