Great adventure and great fun
Long Way Round is the first of a series of motorcycle adventure/ buddy videos made by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, and is still one of the best. The trip they undertake to circumvent the globe, eastward from Scotland is a study in persistence, ethnography, humanity, humor and rigorous effort. The trip also features several visits to UNICEF projects along the way, an ongoing testament to Charley's support of that worthy organization. Long Way Round is the first of a series of motorcycle adventure/ buddy videos made by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, and is still one of the best. Long Way Round
Overall this was a good documentary about to blokes riding bikes around the world. What has to be remembered is that they had an ulimited budget to do this and all the support they needed was right behind them. No matter how you look at it this was a great journey, and I think most people interested in this type of motorcycling will really enjoy the total encompassing effect. A little less on the personal diaries and more scenery would have made this 5 stars all the way. But if you really want the definitive rife of a life time from just plain ordinary blokes, get the "MONDO ENDURO" DVD and sit back and have a real hoot about one of the ultimate real trips around the world, unsponsored and out of pocket.Overall this was a good documentary about to blokes riding bikes around the world. A good friend loaned me his copy - was so addicting I had to buy my own! Long Way Round is for bikers what Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days" was for everybody else - the most amazing travel adventure ever! PLUS, non-bikers, like my wife, loved it too. She refused to let me finish the loaned copy without her - we watched/consumed the last 5 hours side-by-side. It doesn't hurt that my wife finds Ewan 'sexy', but she also loved the adventure! Long Way Round shows places NONE of us will ever see - Eastern Europe, Mongolia, the 'Road of Bones' in Siberia, etc. - PLUS, you see the struggles that Ewan & Charley go thru as bikers AND as friends - so even if you're not a biker, IF you've ever traveled with a friend you can relate. "Long Way Round" is a documentary of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's 100+ day motorcycle trip from London to New York. Their trip is so interesting and enjoyable to watch, mostly because Ewan and Charley are excited to meet new people and are respectful of the different cultures they encounter. Most amazing is the kindness and helpfulness of the strangers Ewan and Charley meet along the way. Nevermind the incredible obstacles (language barriers, non-existing roads, physical injuries, difficult border crossings, etc.), Ewan and Charley make this a trip to remember! Please note there are two DVD versions of "Long Way Round." I prefer the 2005 2-disk version, which is the one televised originally. The later released 3-disk version uses different music, has much more added footage, ... Amazing Adventure
Long Way Round is an amazing story of two best friends who decided to take a trip around the World on Motorcycles. The story is very engaging, as it documents the perils that came upon them and how they miraculously, with help from people they met along the way, managed to overcome great obstacles. More than a motorcycle story, this is a heartwarming chronical of the brother hood of man and how we are all basically the same and have the desire to help others and support our fellow man.
