A great idea for an album even though it's a little too late in the game. The Byrds who basically started as a Dylan cover band, can easily say they helped Dylan sell his own catalog. This collection contains every single Dylan cover (live, studio, & unreleased) in their existance. Although it has been written that Dylan's favorite group to do his songs were Manfred Mann, The Byrds did a bangup job as well. This cd is a must for Byrds completists, the one dire track is "Lay Lady Lay" without the gospel choir (originally found on the long-deleated box set). Fanatics rejoice!
I had heard these Byrds' versions of Bob Dylan songs over these past, almost 50, years! I thought that this CD was a great opportunity to get them all on the same disc so I could enjoy them again. It's also wonderful to hear some alternate and early versions of some of the songs. These still sound great after all of those years. You can't go wrong with the pairing of Bob Dylan and the Byrds!
The sixties to me was a time of awareness and an awakening to my generation, we were just experimenting with what freedom really was and how to handle all the things that were new to us. Suddenly because of our age and the events of our times we now had a voice and weren't sure how to use this newfound power. Music became our vocal chords and tears and sorrow and shame became our motivation. Long live Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Niel Young, Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Ian Anderson and all the inspiration of MY GENERATION....
