This review is for the sound quality of this SACD first of all. (The music is awesome without a doubt.) We must know: this is a live recording from the sixties (1965) engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. Wes Montgomery is still on this record as a contributing artist. As he is one of the most influental guitarrist in the world of jazz and he also has a great respect even among the rock musicians, we can expect a really pleasant experience before we put this record on. We won’t be disappointed. The sound quality on this Analogue Productions SACD is fulfill our expectations if we want a real analogue-like sound. We definitely get it. We can hear the the audience noises and applauses during the recording but it is not disturbing at all: almost like being in a jazz club in the sixties. Kelly's piano playing is very easy, „light as feather” so it just put us in a relaxed mood. Montgomery's tricky guitar riffs and enjoyable solos amazingly added to the sound of the trio. We can hear each and every fine detail of the nstruments without distortion and on a wide soundstage. The instruments are well separated and recognizeable in every moment. The double bass has the necessary depht but does not suppress the other instruments. I think this record is the best sounding one among Montgomery’s records including his studio recordings too. ***** Recommended! Read full review
