Fast & Excellent Espresso Machine, but no Beans Empty Warning
The Philips unit makes excellent espresso, cappucino and coffee, quickly and with excellent flavor. It's easy to use, with a good UI. The sole significant drawback is that there is absolutely no indicator when the bean hopper is empty, and in the case of most placements, you cannot see visually how many beans remain. Therefore, when it is running out of beans, rather than stopping operation and showing a warning light (as it does when the water level is too low). Dissapointing
I was so excited to finally purchase a coffee maker that has the burr grinder incorporated within the system delivering a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. Although, It is a bit disappointing that the hotplate does not seem to maintain the heat of the coffee, the burr grinder needs almost daily cleaning and if not the water backs up while dripping and eventually overflows (this has happened several times). In hindsight and in considering the cost of this machine, I would have just bought the burr grinder separately and saved myself a lot of time in maintenance and frustrated morning messes.I was so excited to finally purchase a coffee maker that has the burr grinder incorporated within the system delivering a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. Does almost the same thing as a Breville Conical Burr Grinder that I wanted. No more cleaning out bean hopper after each use. Air tight seal on Hopper No pre measuring of beans Mild-Medium-Strong selection Auto-off from 0-4 hours Cons: Display window should have a back light and you have to bend down to read it Cup cake style of basket Carafe is to large( had Cuisinart shortened the carafe that would have made room for a cone shape basket) Cuisinart has the worst return policy My coffee maker was under warrantee but I have to send it back to Cuisinart on my own dime & enclose a check for $10.00 This will be my last Cuisinart product I like a light roast and not to have my coffee linger with a bitter after taste. So I decided to try it out on this model. I had a DBG-500 but didn't like it as you had to clean out the bean hopper after each use as moisture from the brewing process collect up into the hopper; plus there was no selections in the grind of the coffee. I was thinking of purchasing a Breville Conical Burr Grinder, but the price tag was to steep for me and this coffee maker suctioned almost the same way. I enjoyed opening a fresh can of ground coffee and have the aroma fill the kitchen. This model does the same. After grinding the aroma of fresh coffee emerges and reminds me of that fresh can of coffee. This machine makes a great cup of coffee without that bitter after taste though I find I like to use less than the recommended amount. If they had made the carafe a little shorter (like the size of my Gevalia 12 cup) they could go to a cone shape filter.

The redesign of this Coffee Maker is wonderful
This is our 2nd purchase of this particular model. The first one lasted us 2 years and 4 months, however we are 'power' coffee drinkers, and we most likely worked it to death. The old design was tough to clean because it allowed moisture to enter the bean shoot, thus creating a sticky mess. Cuisinart seems to have solved that problem. The bean shoot is now very dry, and can actually be cleaned using the brush provided. Not really knowing the benchmark time for a coffee maker to brew 12 cups, we answered 'no' to the 'does it brew quickly' question. It seems to take its own sweet time brewing, however the end result is well worth the wait.This is our 2nd purchase of this particular model. Very flexible features
Everything that the description says it does...it does. As for my own taste the 12 cup grind setting uses more beans than necessary. I now make 12 cups using the 10 cup setting and for my taste, it's excellent. The machine makes it easy to find the perfect setting for your taste.
