I picked this up cheep because it has nightvision integrated into the system. Although the IR light doesn't put out much light, when used with off camera IR lighting, this camera itself works great for nightvision. Yes, I use this, an TRV 33, a TRV 103 and HVR A1U for paranormal investigations. The DVD can be played back right away after finalizing, on any DVD player where the Mini DV's have to be put onto the computer or on a stand alone DVD recorder. I personally think the video quality is great for such a small hand held machine. The only cons would be, for me anyway, is that there;s no external microphone input jack and no Headphone jack. Also, maybe a hot shoe would be good to to hold any accessories such as the microphone. All in all, this is quite a good quality machine, especially if you keep it clean.
